He forbids the children to discuss his decisionsHe trusts few peopleHe displays an intense need to control those closest to him- Loves his wife sacrificially
Loves his wife with understandingLoves his wife with verbal praiseEncourages his wife to use her giftsOne way that some men keep from being mutually accountable is through intimidation.
Chapter 7 Restoring the Ancient Boundaries of Gender and Marriage
A child’s sexuality is at the very core of his identity.
In our culture, two things are being assumed…
- Gender is not fixed; it is fluid
Marriage is not restricted to one man and one woman…- Our maleness and femaleness is an essential part of our humanity as God has created us
It is good to be male and it is good to be female - because in either case, we bear the image of GodWe have neither the right nor the power to change the sex that God has given us because it is a part of his created orderChapter 8 How to Raise Masculine Sons and Feminine Daughters
“Men are generally more careful of the breed of their horses and dogs than of their children.” William Penn
Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
How can a father embitter this children:
By favoritismBy discouragementBy forgetting that a child is growing up, has a right to ideas of his own, and the need not to be an exact copy of his fatherBy neglectBy bitter words and outright physical crueltyFathers should raise their children with tenderness:
- Listen to them and respect their feelings
If you have been wrong or too harsh, be man enough to confess and ask their forgivenessListen to the input your wife gives you about each childBe “high touch” and dispense liberal doses of encouragementConsider them temperamentsGive your children the three A’s
