Transformed By Grace

Following Queen Esther’s coronation and Mordecai’s saving of King Ahasuerus, in this episode we discover the unexpected promotion of Haman to the highest office in Persia, which brings about the command for all officials to bow and give him divine-level reverence. Mordecai, a faithful Jew and magistrate, refuses on religious grounds, enraging Haman, who learns he is Jewish and plots to annihilate Mordecai and every Jew throughout the provinces. Haman then bribes Ahasuerus to authorize an irrevocable decree to slaughter all Jews. Yet God’s unseen providence is already at work, foreshadowing Haman as a type of the future Antichrist, and the Jews’ deliverance, which is still celebrated to this day at the Feast of Purim. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/361-the-rise-of-haman/

Three years after Queen Vashti’s removal, the Persian king Ahasuerus accepts his servants’ plan to gather beautiful young virgins to select a new queen. In Shushan, the Jewish exile Mordecai had raised his orphaned cousin Esther as his own daughter; after royal officials select her for the harem, she is eventually crowned queen, while concealing her Jewish identity at Mordecai’s command. Later, Mordecai—now an official at the king’s gate—uncovers an assassination plot by two royal chamberlains, reports it through Esther, and has their execution recorded in the royal chronicles. The events in this episode continue to reveal God’s hidden hand of protection over the Jewish nation. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/360-the-rise-of-esther/

Esther is one of two books of the Bible named after women, with Ruth being the other. It’s fascinating to note that Esther is the only book in Scripture in which there is no explicit reference to God. But while God is not mentioned, He is still clearly at work, demonstrating His hidden providence for the nation of Israel. In this episode, we see how the deposing of the Persian queen Vashti by King Ahasuerus opened the throne for Esther, which paved the way for preserving the exiled Jews from future extinction. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/359-the-fall-of-vashti/

This episode examines the Apostle Paul’s triumphant declaration in 2 Timothy 4:6-8 that he was ready to be poured out as a drink offering, his departure at hand; he had fought the good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith, knowing a crown of righteousness awaited him at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Paul viewed his life as a soldier’s battle, an athlete’s race, and a farmer’s stewardship—never quitting despite persecution, completing the ministry given him, and guarding the truth revealed to him for this dispensation of grace. The message closes with a challenge to believers to finish their own course with the same passion, so they, too, will have no regrets when standing before the Lord. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/333-finishing-to-win/

In this episode, we discuss the Apostle Paul’s three vocational metaphors in 2 Timothy 2:3-13 for faithful Christian service and ministry: endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, strive lawfully as an athlete in competition, and labor diligently as a husbandman/farmer. Paul applies these to the Judgment Seat of Christ, where suffering for “my gospel” (Christ’s death and resurrection according to the revelation of the mystery) yields eternal glory and reigning with Him, while unfaithfulness brings loss of reward. Every believer in Christ will live with Him in heaven, but it’s up to each individual believer in their stand for Christ whether they will live with Him in a higher reigning position. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/332-battling-to-win/

This episode covers Colossians 3:22-25 (and 4:1), instructing employees (“servants”) to obey bosses (“masters”) in everything—not with eyeservice as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart fearing God—knowing they will receive the “reward of the inheritance” at the Judgment Seat of Christ for such labor, while those who do wrong will suffer loss. And bosses must treat their workers justly and equitably, knowing they, too, will answer to their heavenly Master. The teaching emphasizes that work is God’s pre-fall idea, manifests godliness, and carries eternal significance when done heartily for Christ’s glory, regardless of the profession, turning ordinary labor into worship and ministry that will yield eternal reward. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/331-working-to-win/

Here, the Apostle Paul, drawing from the familiar Isthmian Games near Corinth, challenges believers in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 to run the Christian race with the same intense determination, self-discipline, and purpose as the athletes: “So run, that ye may obtain,” being temperate in all things and keeping the body under subjection so that, after preaching the gospel to others, one is not disqualified from reward. The race is not about losing one’s salvation (which is secure by grace through faith) but about winning an incorruptible crown and eternal rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ—thus believers must run with patience, laying aside every weight and sin while looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/330-running-to-win/

This episode highlights 1 Corinthians 3:8-15 to show believers as co-laborers with God in His Church—both as His “husbandry” (field planted and watered by Paul and Apollos) and His “building” (with Paul as the wise master builder who laid the sole foundation of Jesus Christ). Believers must take heed how they build on that foundation, using rewardable materials of gold, silver, and precious stones (faithful, grace-based service that abides the testing fire) rather than wood, hay, and stubble (carnal or mixed works that burn), so that at the Judgment Seat every man’s labor will be revealed, rewarded if it endures, or cause loss if it does not—yet the believer himself will still be saved “yet so as by fire.” https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/329-building-to-win/

In this episode, we see Jesus comforting His distressed disciples—following the troubling news of betrayal, denial, and His impending departure—with truth concerning their future hope with Him in the millennial kingdom on earth. When Thomas questions the way, Jesus declares that He is “the way, the truth, and the life,” providing the only path to an eternity in God's presence. Upon Philip’s request to see the Father, Jesus affirms His deity and perfect union with the Father, declaring that knowing and seeing Him equals knowing and seeing the Father, as evidenced by his truthful words and miraculous works. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/373-i-am-the-way-the-truth-and-the-life/

If the Jews weren’t convinced as to Christ’s previous claim of deity with His “I am” statement, it certainly was reinforced with His pronouncement, “I and My Father are one.” We see in this episode Christ beginning His discourse with the Jewish leaders with the fact that, as God, He has the authority to give eternal life, and also the power to keep His “sheep,” or followers, eternally safe. Christ then let the truth of His Person and identity stand or fall on His works and miracles, which demonstrated His unity and oneness with the Father. https://bereanbiblesociety.org/tbg-episode/372-i-and-my-father-are-one/
