Miss Katalyna is a proud Transgender Woman of colour, social media trans activist, youtuber, Plus Size Model and passionate about Diversity and Inclusion in Australia.

Brooke Murray is the founder of Small Wonder Arts, which makes joyful and heartbreaking theatre that places trans and gender diverse people centre stage.

We chat about the importance of the trans performers and directors of telling their own stories, theatre for young people, the perils of curly-haired folk trying to get haircut and the politics of hair in general!

Oliver Reeson is an essayist and screenwriter. They co-created and wrote Homecoming Queens, a web series commissioned by SBS about chronic illness in your 20’s.

On our show we discuss trans narratives, the power of stories in forming identity, health battles and the complexity of traversing the world as a non-binary person.

One of Oliver’s essays can be found in the new collection Growing Up Queer in Australia, which assembles voices from across the spectrum of LGBTIQA+ identity. On our show, Oliver reads some passages from their touching essay from this collection. Kochava Lilit is a queer and disability rights activist who absolutely loves being autistic, ADHD, and Jewish. Their culture and heritage is an inextricable part of their activism and identity. Kochava has performed at the Melbourne Writes’ Festival, spoken about queer rights and culture at the United Nations.

We interview Kochava about their disability activism, trans advocacy in the youth and gender diverse organisation Ygender, the experience of being Jewish in queer spaces, and the role that gender plays in access to diagnoses and support for autism, ADHD and neurodiversity. We also take a deep-dive into the political situation for trans and gender diverse folks in Australia today.

On Episode 4 of Transgender Warriors Sam and Gemma interview Vincent Silk, a writer working in fiction and non-fiction, and living in Naarm, Melbourne. His work has been published in the UTS Writers Anthology, Voiceworks, Going Down Swinging, Archer and Seizure. In his non-fiction he blends poetics and facts and in his fiction he explores possibilities. Sisters of No Mercy is his first novel. Vincent also treats us to a reading of one of his earlier works (from year 3!) and the trans history training that he ran for LGBTIQ+ teens at Camp Out in NSW.

On our second episode of Transgender Warriors we discuss the life to day and extraordinary musical and artist contribution of ANOHNI, the trans singer, composer and visual artist who first rose to fame after her band Antony and the Johnson’s won the Mercury Music prize for their 2005 album “I am a Bird Now”.
