Transition Talks

Developed by the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) in partnership with the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) , the Emissions Measuring and Monitoring Technology roadmap includes over 45 current and emerging technologies, ranging from in-situ sensors and handheld instruments to drones, plane and satellites. These hold the potential to play a pivotal role in emissions monitoring and reduction due to their ability to provide accurate, timely data which is essential for identifying and mitigating environmental impacts.

In this episode, NZTC’s Stephen Sheal interviews the NSTA’s Metering Manager, Douglas Griffin and NZTC’s Head of Technology Services, Niki Chambers, as they provide insight on the creation and delivery of the roadmap, from the current and upcoming technologies to the crucial data and insights North Sea operators require. 

The Net Zero Technology Centre’s Hydrogen Backbone Link project explores the critical hydrogen transport infrastructure which has the potential to unlock Scotland’s hydrogen economy by providing 10% of Europe’s projected hydrogen demand by the mid-2030s and support 300,000 green jobs by 2045. 

In this episode, NZTC’s Head of Marketing and Communications Katie Begg interviews Innovation Manager Jason Paterson, as they explore everything from the infrastructure and routing required, the investment needed for a new pipeline, to the benefits and opportunities Scotland would gain as a hydrogen exporter, and what phase two of the project is going to look like

Shared data platforms will be crucial in improving efficiency, innovation and ultimately, in accelerating the energy transition. Our latest Transition Talks episode explores two key projects that are making significant advancements in this area: NZTC’s Offshore Energy Data Architecture (OEDA), and the Open Surface Data Universe (OSDU).
