Hey everyone, I’m Mike, she’s Sophie, and that’s Brenda, and we’re On the Road with Mickey! This is Season 2, Episode 35 for August 30, 2021, and our feature topic today is Never Have I Ever…Disney Edition.   • I can’t believe I forgot to mention this last week. If you have anyone with sensitive hearing, bring headphones or earplugs or something to help alleviate the loud sounds of fireworks, etc. That was a game changer for me with regards to watching the fireworks and really enjoying them!
  • Things that Sheila always brings to Disney: Ziplock bags, bug spray and sunscreen! I also always order Amazon Prime for water and snacks for the room.
• Cheddar from the Big Cheese
  • Mike: My friend Randy sent me some news clippings — the home of Charlotte and Robert Disney, Walt and Roy’s aunt and uncle — is being restored back to it’s origins as a 1914 Craftsman bungalow. The house is located at 4406 West Kingswell Avenue in the Los Feliz area, and Walt and Roy’s aunt and uncle let them board in their home for $5 per week in 1923. This location is where Walt finished the Alice Comedies, which were a series of animated/live-action shorts created by Walt Disney. 
  • Brenda: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at WDW is going to be closing on September 7 for a refurbishment. This is the same day that BTMRR at Disneyland is also closing. Hopefully Walt Disney World’s version will be completed before the 50th Anniversary!
  • Sophie: Basin at Disney Springs just released four new bath bombs inspired by Mickey, Minnie, Daisy and Donald! They are a great way to bring the magic home and relax after a busy day. They all feature different scents that match the characters personalities so there’s something for everyone.

  • The Carousel at Pixar Pier is no longer called King Triton’s Carousel, it is now called “Jessie’s Critter Carousel”. Here are some pictures from my friend Stephanie for you to see.
  • A couple of weeks back I asked for your favorite Disney shows in the Facebook Group. By far the consensus is that Festival of the Lion King is the favorite show, but other votes are for Happily Ever After and Fantasmic!
• Cheddar from the Big Cheese
  • Mike: Twinkling lights, festive décor, and magical celebrations will fill Magic Kingdom Park during “Disney Very Merriest After Hours.” The event will take place on 24 select nights Nov. 8 through Dec. 21 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The party will include the Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks as well as the Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade! That’s right, a full parade is coming back to Walt Disney World!
  • Brenda: Boma – Flavors of Africa reopened this past Friday, August 20th!
  • Sophie: Coming to Epcot in mid-September: The long-awaited opening of the Space 220 Restaurant over by Mission:SPACE!
  • Brenda: This is just a rumor, but there is some talk that the Candlelight Processional may be back this year! It would be part of the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays, which begins on November 26 and runs through December 30!
  • Sophie: Lastly, Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage has now reopened at Hollywood Studios!

Lastly, you can see Winnie the Pooh, Joy from Inside Out, Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse in various locations in Epcot.

  • One of my clients is visiting Walt Disney World right now, and she gave me some photos to share as well as some great feedback on the parks. Here’s what she said: “Just a few highlights. I saw the new lion king show yesterday. It’s still great even with things left out. I managed to shut down the Toy Story Mania ride when our fan fell out of the backpack and rolled under the tracks. Lol. Lots of people here but it’s not bad at all. Last night’s fireworks were beautiful but people were packed in like sardines. The new fireworks show at Epcot is beautiful. Can’t imagine how great Harmonious will be.”

For today’s pod, we’re taking a look at our five favorite Disney shows and trying to put some sort of ranking to them! Here’s our rundown of what we talked about:

  • Brenda: Let’s talk about the Disney Wish a little bit! Some really neat aspects were discussed the other day on the Disney Parks Blog. Here are some of the neat details that you will be able to experience on the Wish:
    • The Wish will have Disney Cruise Line’s first-ever outdoor spa retreat, complete with whirlpool spas, plush loungers and plenty of space for open-air yoga sessions.
    • Untangled Salon and Hook’s Barbery, our first standalone salon and barbershop experiences, each inspired by a classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film.
    • Three new upscale bars and lounges – the Keg & Compass, Nightingale’s, and The Bayou.
  • Sophie: Returning for a second year this November, Give Kids the World will have their second annual Night of a Million Lights Spectacular! We did this last year, and it was absolutely amazing. The event will run from November 12, 2021 – January 2, 2022, and will run from 5PM to 10PM nightly, with staggered entry times.
  • Sophie: A few weeks back in our Red, White, and Disney podcast, we talked about the baby Masai giraffe that was born in June. Well, he has now joined his family out on the savanna for Kilimanjaro Safaris! Say hello to Humphrey!
  • Mike: Beginning on August 11 on Disney+, Goofy stars in three new “How to” shorts from the Walt Disney Animation Studios: “How to Stay at Home” is the name of the series, and it takes a lighthearted look at the pandemic. “How to wear a Mask”, “Learning to Cook”, and “Binge Watching” are the names of the three shorts.
  • Mike: Lastly, Disneyland released details and pricing on the new Disneyland Magic Key Program. They go on sale starting August 25th, and there are four Magic Key Passes:
    • Dream Key ($1,399 with no blockout dates and free parking, up to 6 theme park reservations at a time)
    • Believe Key ($949 with some blockout days, and 50% off parking, up to 6 theme park reservations at a time)
    • Enchant Key ($649, up to 4 theme park reservations, and more blockout days)
    • Imagine Key ($399, only available to Southern California Residents living in zip codes 90000 to 93599. 2 theme park reservations at a time, more blockout days).
    • There are other merchandise discounts I won’t get into. The Disneyland website has all of the complete details.
  • Mike: Lastly (I promise), what does the Magic Key program mean for Walt Disney World? Absolutely nothing — but Disney did tease this in their presentation: “And for those wondering about Walt Disney World Annual Passes, new pass sales will become available in time for the start of the 50th anniversary celebration! Walt Disney World Resort will be sharing additional information and details later this month.”

The options were Kali River Rapids, The Disney Railroads, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror, or something else. In the voting, the Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion tied! It wasn’t even close for the rest, those two backstories received 78% of the vote!

This is Season 2, Episode 29 for July 19, 2021, and our feature topic today is Our Favorite Disney Backstories. For today’s pod, we’re taking a look at our favorite backstories — you know, what makes a ride a Disney ride.. Here’s our rundown of what we talked about:

  • Brenda: Disney has recently released information about the Holidays at Walt Disney World! Starting November 8th on select nights will be the Disney Very Merriest After Hours party. This is the replacement for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Sunset Seasons Greetings is also returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (YAY!) and Santa will be bringing some North Pole cheer to a motorcade down Hollywood Boulevard. Also, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will have festive seasonal decor and festive Disney character flotillas sailing down  Discovery River to the sounds of joyful songs of the season. There will also be a holiday edition of Tree of Life Awakenings. 
  • Mike: Another Holiday event that will be coming is the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, from November 26 – December 30. No word yet on whether or not the Candlelight Processional will be part of the Festival.
  • Sophie: One other item for the Holidays this year, regarding the Disney Resorts. From the Disney Parks Blog: “Our Disney Resort hotels will be decked for the holidays, with iconic trees and other seasonal touches. And a guest favorite will return this year, as select gingerbread displays will once again be part of our holiday season!”

For today’s pod, we’re taking a look at our favorite pre-shows — the show before the show, if you will. Here’s our rundown of what we talked about:

• Cheddar from the Big Cheese
  • Sophie: The other day, the big crane that was being used over in the construction for the Tron Lightcycle Run was removed! Hopefully, that means that some of the track for the WDW Railroad is close to being reinstalled and the railroad reopened? Fingers crossed!
  • Brenda: Mickey’s PhilharMagic is getting an addition! A special scene from the Disney and Pixar movie Coco is being added to the show! It will start at Disney’s California Adventure and Disneyland Paris on July 17, and will be added to the Magic Kingdom Park during the 50th Anniversary Celebration!
  • Mike: A couple of weeks ago, we posted a poll in the Group. The question was “Which is your favorite Loungefly?” There were 11 selections to choose from, and the winner of the poll was Lady and the Tramp! To finish up the topic, Sophie was given the choice to pick her own Loungefly for a birthday present. Here’s the one she picked.

  • Brenda: October 1, 2021 — two new nighttime spectaculars are premiering at Walt Disney World! At the Magic Kingdom “Disney Enchanted” will premiere on October 1st, and at Epcot, “Harmonious” will premiere!
  • Sophie: Also coming to Epcot on October 1st: Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure!
  • Mike: ALSO coming to Walt Disney World on October 1st — Disney KiteTails will be coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park! Elaborate, three-dimensional kites of Simba, Zazu, King Louie, Baloo, and more take flight above the Discovery River Amphitheater and soar to the beat of beloved Disney songs.
  • Sophie: Also coming to Walt Disney World as part of “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” — the “Disney Fab 50” — 50 special golden character sculptures that will be placed throughout the four theme parks. They will make their debut on October 1.

  • What is a Disney Weenie?
    • Walt had a poodle named Duchess Disney (also known as DeeDee) that he got after Sunnee passed away. DeeDee was very much Walt’s poodle, and she would follow him everywhere. When he would come home from work, Walt would take two hot dogs — called Weenies by Walt — and eat one and give one to DeeDee. What Walt noticed was how she would follow exactly where the weenie was moved. Walt took that memory and told it to the WED designers for Disneyland that he wanted to lead the Guests to move to certain areas of the park, and the concept of Disney Weenies was born.
