According to Paul, the Galatians had the clear and simple message of salvation, but they let some people who were overly concerned about religious practices come alongside them and add stuff to it.  So, in the beginning, the Galatians had a message leading to salvation, but then they let others adulterate it, taking the truth away and making the message ineffective.
