  • Techniques for Joyful Living

    3/7/1978

Techniques of Joyful Living Part 3 & Rajarshi Janakananda

In our first talk Techniques of Joyful Living Part Three Swami Kriyananda concluded his weekend workshops in Albuquerque, New Mexico in March 1978 with a discussion on willingness followed by a reading from his first edition of The Path. The reading is his first-hand account of Yogananda’s passing at the Biltmore Hotel March 7, 1952.

The second talk Rajarshi Janakananda was given to Ananda Community residents on May 6, 1974. Kriyananda knew Rajarshi and tells many stories about his spiritual greatness. He said that Rajarshi could stay in a state of samadhi at a business meeting and remember every detail of the meeting.

He also talked about Rajarshi’s humility, simplicity and complete devotion to his guru.

  • Superconscious Living Awareness - Part 2

    1980
Superconscious living brings solutions to all challenges.

    From Swami Kriyananda:

When you avoid problems, it’s not the problem that gets bigger, it’s that you get weaker and smaller.

We need challenges to become strong and to understand things more clearly. Put energy into positive thoughts and solutions. Don’t wait passively for something to happen.

Look at challenges as opportunities. View a challenge impersonally and call it a ‘situation’ for which you are looking for solutions. For every problem, there is a solution.

Kriyananda invited 3 students from his classes in San Francisco, to share experiences of applying yoga teachings in daily life. The first student to speak, was the training manager at the police academy in San Francisco at the time.

He would apply the teachings by projecting positive thoughts, such as to victims of brutal crimes. When the question came from a victim, ‘will I be alright,’ his answer was, ‘yes, you’ll be alright.’ He saw people relax when he said that.

Becoming neutral in a tense situation is key. He said, try as best you can to be centered, and feel inwardly that everything is going to work out ok, even if there is a potential to be shot at or injured. By being calm yourself and not reacting, you can have a calming influence on people who are agitated.

From a well-known artist and art teacher: Have a sense of joy in your life. Whatever you need to do, do it with joy. Stay positive. We sometimes learn more from our failures than our successes. When you work with people on a project or are teaching, try to make them feel good about themselves to build up their confidence. Help them let go of what they think they should and should not do. Encourage centeredness vs. outwardness.

Yogananda said that the season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success. When you feel you haven’t done something right, instead of thinking ‘I have failed,’ say to yourself, ‘I haven’t yet succeeded.’

  • Superconscious Attunement Ceremony

    Superconscious Attunement Ceremony 2/14/87

This is a highly experiential event including:

    • Prayer
    • Chanting
    • In depth affirmations – The eternal life of God flows through me. I was made for Thee alone
    • A Talk by Kriyananda
    • Releasing blocked energy in the spine – Aum  Swaha
    • Oneness song – explanation, and everyone sings. Later titled Joined in Prayer with changed notes and melody.
    • Original recording includes group healing prayers. They were mostly inaudible and 1987 prayers are of course no longer relevant, so are not included. You may stop the recording here and say, “Friends pray with me.”  Say a name out loud and very briefly explain their situation and what to pray for, then say, “In Thy Light receive this prayer.”

    • In depth practice of a technique to shift your levels of consciousness as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda – subconscious – conscious – superconscious
    • Meditation – silent space not included in this recording, but you can stop the recording and meditate on your own
    • Waves of Aum – Kriyananda was playing a very small electric piano on the original recording, that sounds ok with other musical selections, but the recording did not turn out well when everyone sang Waves of Aum. A recording from another ceremony with a harmonium playing the drone is dubbed in.
    • Meditation on the inner sounds of Aum – not included on this recording. You can pause the audio and meditate on your own.
    • All sing “Sing Out With Joy”

  • Strategies for Daily Battles of Life

Strategies for the daily battles of life from the Bhagavad Gita contains subtle teachings in the Gita and the individual and inward battle of Kurukshetra.

Within our individual consciousness there are thousands of citizens, some are noble, but some are under the influence of maya/delusion.

The true races of people, in a spiritual sense, are not to color of their skin, but the different races are but two, those who are dedicated to matter and the things of this world and the people dedicated to God.

In fighting the daily battle of life, it is productive to work on your relationship with God and inner communion.

Where there is the thought of ego, there will be duality, and there is something between you and God. Dissolve the ego and you can realize that you and God are one.

Work with the upward moving and downward moving energies in the spine. Focus on the upward moving energy vs. being identified with the downward moving currents of energy. These movements depend on your thoughts.

Our birthright is to make our way back to our origin in divine consciousness. When the ego is transmuted, our consciousness becomes centered at the spiritual eye.

When you feel intolerant about a quality in someone else, it is a clue to something in yourself. It doesn’t mean that if you a pure and perfect, you can’t see darkness in others. You can see it more clearly, but you don’t condemn or judge it. You want to help them get out of it.

All the things Arjuna is dealing with in the Bhagavad Gita are psychological realities of human nature. When you read the Gita in this light it will give you tremendous fruit for meditation and spiritual growth.

Krishna tells Arjuna that there is no death. When a person dies in form, he gets born into a new form. Similarly, when you commit energy in a negative direction, you can instead, redirect your energy into a new quality you want to develop.

Spiritualing relationships is essential in our search for God. We can find God in everyone and relate to one another from that basic premis.

When we develop our own spiritual qualities the magnetism is created that will help us find God. It will help us find God if we are looking for God in human beings and especially in our closest relationships.

  • Spiritualizing Family Life

    10/10/1982

Spiritualizing Family Life includes loving family members and relating to them from the soul level.

We are placed with people according to what they draw out of us and what we draw from them. We learn life’s lessons together.

Accept that each person in his own time may be able to learn a life lesson, and it can’t be forced to happen.

If one person in a family seeks God, others in the family will be brought closer to God.

  • Spiritual Tests & Right Attitude

    Circa 1980
Spiritual Tests – Right Attitude is the fruit and the groundwork from deep meditation.

When you feel deep peace in meditation, the goal is to express peace through you in daily life.

How can you maintain right attitude under any circumstance? You can take responsibility for your shortcomings but don’t dwell on them. The solution is to always offer them into the Light.

You can’t expect to please God if you can’t win the love of your fellow man.
