  • Kundalini

    1/29/1983

Kundalini – energy in the spine is neutral in itself, and becomes affected by our thoughts.

When we hold negative thoughts, the energy finds a place to live in the spine in the lower chakras. Unless these vorticies of energy are released, the kundalini energy is blocked.

Negative thoughts cause a downward or outward energy movement. Positive thoughts cause an upward energy movement.

If you focus on how to free up your energy, how to find more peace, love and joy, you can live in a higher way.

Kriya yoga, devotion and meditation can be very helpful.

Another important practice is to focus at the point between the eyebrows at all times. Kriyananda said  Yogananda would go around with his concentration at the point between the eyebrows as much as he could, to train his mind to be constantly uplifted. It’s very good to practice this. Gradually it will become a habit and you will find that the energy focused there becomes very powerful.

  • Purpose of Meditation

    1/21/1984

Purpose of Meditation – meditation connects you to divine energy

When practicing Hong Sau, do it with the thought that your breath is a cosmic phenomena. It is not just you breathing, you are participating in a greater flow of “cosmic breath.”

At the beginning of the talk, Kriyananda says, “Any discussion of how to meditate should begin with the question, why meditation?”

Meditation helps us face challenges. We can attune ourselves so completely to God that we loose the consciousness of the small self and merge into the Divine.

Kriyananda explains that the breath is the result of the movement of energy in the spine.

You can use this recording for personal or group meditations.

There are three MP3’s: The entire talk, the chant, and the 24 minute guided Hong Sau meditation.

  • How to Develop Devotion - Part 2

    2/19/83

    Part Two

Devotion is about nurturing the love of God within you. Make devotion the most important part of your life. You’ll find that understanding is given to you when you need it. You will see clearly what the realities are and what the right direction is.

The heart can express your intuitive faculties. When the heart is calm and uplifted, you’ll find that it is always guided in the right direction. If it makes a mistake, then it is corrected. When you’ve reached a certain point in your devotion, God saves you from your mistakes. You’ve won enough of His attention so that he won’t let you go too far in the wrong direction, he’ll pull you back.

  • How to Develop Devotion - Part 1

    2/19/83

How to Develop Devotion Part One explains what Sri Yukteswar speaks of in his book The Holy Science as the ‘heart’s natural love.’ This natural love of the heart is the principal thing that moves us forward on the spiritual path.

There are two basic ways to perceive things: by reason and by feeling. If we go too much toward reason, we find that this overcomes us and suffocates the feeling of the heart. If we learn to direct our heart toward the reason, if we don’t divorce the two, then it is possible for us to have the balance where each one helps the other. Devotion needs to be kept in a state of reason because it could become fanaticism. We need to have the hearts natural love but not with outpouring of emotions.

What is the difference between feeling and emotion? Feeling, in the context of developing devotion, means being calm as opposed to excited. Excited feeling is emotion. Without the excitement, feeling will automatically aspire upward toward the spiritual eye.
