  • God's Impersonal Love

    1/11/04

Gods Impersonal Love –  the truth is, that God’s love is always impersonal because the love He gives is given equally to all, saints and sinners alike.

Truth and love are always impersonal because they are the divine essence beyond all form.

We limit God’s power to work in our lives when we confine Him to a certain definition.

This talk is one in a series of 365 programs recorded for Aasta TV in India – A Way of Awakening. The 20 minute talks are based on readings from Kriyananda’s book Conversations with Yogananda.

  • Experience: The Basis of Religion

    2/1/2004

Experience: The Basis of Religion is based on the principle that we can’t know religion only with the mind, we must experience it in our lives and in our hearts.

The world is on the eve of a radical change in religion.

If God is bliss, then experiment and try to find that out for yourself!

  • Energy and Magnetism

    7/16/82

Energy and magnetism are interrelated and attitudes greatly affect our magnetism. Being kind is magnetic – being unkind is unmagnetic, being joyful is magnetic and being moody or unhappy is unmagnetic. Certain colors are more magnetic than others.

Karma can be mitigated by increasing the level of energy in your body and mind, which will also improve your aura so that you are protected from negative energy. When your aura is strong it can actually influence outward events.

Kriyananda also explains how to engage your will and willingness without using tension. Using the will without tension can also be applied to practicing devotion and meditating more deeply.

Christ and Krishna – both known for their divine peace and love.

Swami discusses the similarities in the circumstances of the births of these two great avatars, and how the hand of God was working in their lives from the beginning.

The restlesness of the worldly mind extinguishes the divine presence.

  • Being and Doing

    8/13/1981

Being and Doing – the spiritual path is not doing, but being.

It is primarily through selfless, serviceful activities that we develop our higher qualities.

In being kind to others, we develop kindness. We need to continue to “do” until we lose the thought that “I am doing it.”

When you have an expanded consciousness you are able to better cope with reality.

When you think if ‘I and mine’ you are never content. You always want something more. This world will never be perfect.

  • Ashtanga Yoga - Part 2

    10/28/82

    Part Two

This talk is full of inspiring wisdom from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Kriyananda begins the second half of this talk by
addressing the “right question” as he put it, “Who am I?”

The principles in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras hold a subtle and higher dimension if you view them not just as stages to go through, but apply the principles inwardly to your spiritual life and development.

Kriyananda comments on the sutras. Truthfulness means a willingness to be demonstrated wrong on any point, no matter how precious it is to you. Truthfulness also means to be willing to accept whatever is. One of the greatest problems people face is an unwillingness to face reality.

  • Ashtanga Yoga - Part 1

    10/28/82

Ashtanga Yoga – eight-limbed stages of spiritual growth

    Part One

Kriyananda explains that ashtanga literally means “eight-limbed.” These eight ‘limbs’ are stages of growth, like steps in the direction toward spiritual fulfillment. Instead of calling it a ‘system’ it’s more like a ‘way’ of yoga.

He gives commentary on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras that help us understand how to apply the aphorisms in daily life. He says that there is only one reality in everything, and that we are expressions of that divine reality.

Kriyananda describes rotations of energy in the spine – vrittis, and how karma and the states of consciousness relate to the vrittis.

The original recording of this class begins with the words “You think man….” It sounds like there could have been something before that, but it’s all that we have from the original.

  • The Art of Superconscious Living

    8/25/86

The Art of Superconscious Living is remaining positive, energetic and enthusiastic!

When we tune-in to the superconscious mind, we are tapping into divine consciousness and opening ourselves to the reality of our oneness with God.

Attitude is very important to higher thinking.

As long as we live in a little human form, we’re going to suffer as well as have temporary fulfillment. But, nothing that we experience in the ego is permanent.

  • Ananda Village Open House Talk

    June 9, 1990
In 1990, Swami Kriyananda wanted to host an event to tell local residents in Nevada County more about what happens at Ananda Village.

He mentions many aspects of community life, including the broader sense of kinship and service to our greater community in Nevada County, and not just the Village residents and guests who come to stay at our Retreat.

He expressed that Ananda people are not trying to be exclusive among themselves. He said, rather, we would like you to know that ALL are welcome and considered part of our greater community family.

Swami Kriyananda explains that Ananda’s spiritual lifestyle creates harmony among Village residents.

He cordially invited all guests to take part in any activities at the Village that they feel to, such as attending Sunday Services or taking classes, or just visiting the community grounds.
