Krysti covers some stories sent to us by Clare all the way from Dublin, Ireland. Ballyheigue Castle is first up(actually in Kerry btw) with it’s stories of both the Cantillon family with it’s connection to the fae folk and the Crosbie family with it’s shady business dealings #pirates? #salvagers? You tell us! Also the interesting fact that the rights of the ghost of that shady family is now owned by the Dutch. Now we move to Dublin and St Audoen’s Church and its’ remnants of the only original Dublin wall gate. Horrible ways to die, haunted businessmen, and warring guilds are all present near the gate to Hell (red light district of old.) Back to the states and home sweet home, Indiana. So technically three city. Rockville was the home to the Indiana State Sanatorium and all it’s sundry facilities. Lee Alan Bryant Healthcare is still on some of this property. Btw, thank you Chris for both the idea and the pics!

The boys came back to hang out with us for this episode! Chuck and Malcom are back to weigh in on Public Enemy Number One and Little Bastard! Tori covers John Dillinger and his place in history with the FBI. A hometown Indy boy, John Dillinger started early in his troublemaking ways. From his first brush with law for car theft, to his last run across the country, the Jackrabbit was in it all. After bailing out of the Navy, he robbed a grocery store and got caught. Cue his stay in the most dangerous prison in the US, Michigan City Prison. After his stay at this prison he promptly got arrested and then his friends broke out of Michigan City Prison and broke John out jail. Cue cross country crime spree and earned the wrath of good old J. Edgar Hoover himself. Cue firefights, more prison breakouts, and of course the obligatory death controversy. Oh and don’t break out of jail, steal a sheriff’s car, and cross state lines, it won’t end well. Next up was Krysti’s coverage of James Dean and his notorious car, Little Bastard. We learn about James’s short but eventful career as well as his love of fast cars. If Little Bastard wasn’t a cursed car then we don’t know what is. Even Obi Wan knew that care would be the death of James. And a Jedi knows these things. Krys covers the rest of the story of this notorious death vehicle and the list of death and injury it left in it’s wake.

House of Madness and Mad Cow Disease
We went abroad for this story, once again far away from us and upside down in Sydney Australia! We cover Gladesville Mental Hospital otherwise known as Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum. Krysti per usual is on point with her history of the hospital and the leaps forward in mental health treatment that were meant to be started. Unfortunately as with most things, good intentions pave the road to hell and all those leaps and bounds are outweighed with the actual needs of the community. The hospital was immediately overcrowded and the horror stories of patient care began. During the hospital operating years over 1228 people were buried on the grounds of the hospital and over 300 are still unknown. You want ghosts? Because this is how you get ghosts… Tori brings us back to Indiana with our first cryptid, the loup garou. Which we find out is not your traditional werewolf, but why cows?! Tori covers a bit of Vincennes history, which she later determines is in the dryer… And no Tori did not look up the stats for it to be an NPC. Malcom was hanging out with us for this episode and weighed in on the cow in the graveyard situation that was addressed. So many mispronunciations and questions about the laws on assaulting livestock, what happened with this episode? Shout out to all our Patrons, Mary, Kittie, Kitty, Hannah, Sam, Malcom, Clare, Harley, and Talia! And we got flyovers preparing for the 500. One last bit…#bigincleveland?

Today Tori gets to dive into a genre that we don’t usually cover, true crime. But this one hometown legend/villain which falls into our topic range, the infamous Belle Gunness. A Norwegian transplant to Chicago and then to Indiana, this woman left a trail of death and insurance fraud in her wake. The carnage and farm where she met her “end” is located in La Porte Indiana. We also find that Belle was not the first to commit murder on the property. Krysti covers the defunct amusement park Rose Island and Charlestown State Park. Rose Island had all the amenities for it’s time (1923-1937) and was located on a peninsula named Devil’s Backbone. It began life as Fern Grove in the 1880s. One of the steamboats that would bring revelers to the island was the Idlewild which was renamed the Belle of Louisville which is still on the river to this day. The park didn’t survive the flood of the Ohio River in 1937. Krysti also reprises more legends of Cry Baby Bridge.

Did someone say cemetery? Why yes we did. We went to Scotland for our story this week. It was a big enough story that we decided to split it. We got a listener suggestion, shoutout will be in the episode, but we got to cover Greyfriars! We learn about a very good doggo Greyfriars Bobby. We learn about the monks that began the Kirkyard and the brutal history of the “Killing Time.” The Covenanters Prison is adjacent to the Kirkyard which is the final(or not so final) resting place of George “Bluidy” Mackenzie. The Black Mausoleum holds his remains and until an unfortunate man looking for shelter in the rain made the poor choice of breaking into it. Also our favorite hashtag comes into play. #kidsaredicks

We start our episode today back in our hometown. Today Tori covers the Athenaeum and it’s long history in Indianapolis. Built in 1893 as Das Deutsche Haus this has been a landmark in Lockerbie Square since it’s construction. The Athenaeum has been a hub of German heritage in Indianapolis. It lays claim to the most haunted space in Indiana, not just Indianapolis. They have ghost tours and historic tours as well. The Rathskellar which is located in the basement is the longest operating restaurant in Indy. It was featured on Ghost Hunters in the episode Dancing With the Dead as well. Krysti ventures to Australia to cover the mystery of Harold Holt’s disappearance. We learn of both his military service and his political service. His impressive political career was progressive in most ways and was a champion for the indigenous people’s rights. He also had some different thoughts on security details which may have played a part in his disappearance. #notsayingitwasaliens

This episode was kind of a train wreck for both of us, fair warning. Tori leads off this episode with another listener story idea from Bethany West Virginia. God’s Acre Cemetery and it’s four foot wall is covered as well as a bit of history of Bethany College. The founder of Bethany College Alexander Campbell was also the namesake of the cemetery as well. Tori tells of the odd happenings and the next iteration of our favorite hashtag #kidsaredrunkdicks. Krysti regales us of Aunt Arties Antique Mall aka Woodward Hall in New Albany IN and all the many things that have been housed there, including a civil war hospital, an opera house, and a dry goods store to name a few. Aunt Arties closed but several other businesses are at that location now. Krysti covers the Vinton House in Cambridge City as well and all the history contained in that building. This episode was littered with puns and errors throughout the whole thing.

Quarantines and Doll Houses
Trigger warning: This episode covers the harsh conditions during past quarantine procedures as well as possible suicide and mistreatment of immigrants.
We went back to Sydney as promised last episode. This week we cover North Head Quarantine Station now known as Q Station. Krysti covers the history of this facility and the changes it has gone through in the past to present day. Tori covers the ghost tours, ghost stories, and of course, the cemeteries. Tori rounds out the episode with more, you guessed it, cemeteries. These two are in Indiana and both are home to the doll house graves. And throughout this episode we once again get to the use our new favorite hashtag…#kidsaredicks

George Goes on a Walk to a Spa and a Ghost Goes Walkabout
Today Krys leads off with a story that starts in our hometown and the story of George Pogue. He was the first settler(disputed) of the Indianapolis area. And who doesn’t love a mystery? She tells of the history of Pogue’s Run and the only civil war battle in the state on Indiana. Apparently it’s better to throw your guns away than let the other side get them. Pogue’s Run is still here to this day just moved underground. Tori covers the Mudlavia Springs Hotel that has disappeared into the past. The ruins stand still there to this day. We have another hometown story suggestion this episode as well, this one from even further away. With this one we travel to Sydney Australia for the story of the Lady in White on Wakehurst Parkway. This is also a teaser from another Sydney story we will jointly cover in a future episode.

Satan and a Doll Walk Into a Pub
This episode we dive into the stories that surround the unincorporated community of Joppa Indiana, thanks Lindsay. According to urban legends the whole town is Satanic and most of them revolve around the Belleville Bible Church. The tales of Satanic worship, mysterious activities, and SCP(whatever that is, Google failed me.) Oh and one other thing about Joppa #kidsaredicks. This also goes into our weird browser histories that probably put both Krys and I on the “crazy kook” watchlist. Krys tells the story of Raggedy Ann’s origin story as well as the odd goings on at her house. Also our first official listener story sent to the Trendy Lobotomy email all the way across the pond. We give you the story of the Royal Stag in Dachet UK. Keep sending us your stories and we will keep telling them.
