Well, it finally happened. The one person whose hair should behave… mine doesn't. And I've officially run out of ideas.
I did everything right. Saw the doctor, ran the tests, got the answers. And then I made a choice I'd scold any client for making. I'll explain, and no, I'm not proud of it.
There's a big change coming this summer. A drastic one. I'll take you with me when it happens. But first I want to hear from you, especially if your hair started acting like a stranger too.
Thank you for watching, always. Come figure this out with me. — Kim

Everybody keeps saying things were better back then. And I keep wondering… were they? Or were we just younger?
I got to thinking about it this week and went digging through my own memories. The first cars, the first apartment, walking home from school with a key around my neck. Some of it holds up. Some of it really, really doesn't.
But there's one thing I'll say is better today, and I bet you can guess which industry I'm talking about.
Thank you for watching, always. Tell me below: were the good old days actually that good? — Kim

I hadn't seen Dwayne Phelps in almost thirty years. Turns out we came up through the same beauty school, the same circles, and somehow never worked together once.
He's the owner of The Shop by Lefty's here in the Valley, and there's a reason for that name. I'll let him tell you.
We got into barbering, faith, building something that lasts, and yes, I finally asked him about those chalk lines. You know the ones.
Thank you for watching, always. Subscribe, hit the bell, and go show Dwayne some love. — Kim

Little confession: I recorded this one poolside in Cabo, still on vacation and still very much not off the clock. Because even by the water with a book and a card game, these hairdresser eyes were watching everybody's hair. It's a sickness. I've made peace with it.
This one was fun. Thank you for watching, always. Drop your ethnicity, your hair type, and your one big vacation-hair worry below. — Kim

Friday, red folder, and I'm landing this plane.
I've spent all week wondering why natural stopped being normal. Here's where I ended up: somewhere along the way, your appearance turned into a whole second job. Hair, lashes, brows, nails, injectables, the calendar never ends. And I'm not throwing stones. I'm on that calendar too.
But it made me ask something I can't shake. When did beauty become something we maintain instead of something we just… did?
I've got a theory about where this is actually headed, and it's not what you'd think.
Wrapping up the trilogy. Watch parts one and two if you missed them, then tell me below: more maintenance, or just more choices? - Kim

Here's what I've landed on after 30 years of this: overdone isn't out. Obvious is out. We're not enhancing ourselves to look enhanced anymore. We're enhancing ourselves to look natural. Let that sit for a second.
And no, this still isn't me hating on anybody. I've got the Botox and the veneers to prove it. I just can't stop wondering where this all ends up.
I also got into something coming for hair that genuinely scared me a little. You'll see.

Quick disclaimer before the comments come for me again. This isn't me hating on anybody. Filler, veneers, whatever makes you feel like your best self? Do your thing, I'm here for it. I'm just genuinely curious about one thing.
I've been in this industry 30 years, and lately I can't stop noticing it. Everybody's starting to look… the same.
Same injector, same surgeon, same everything. So I put on an old movie this weekend and it hit me. Those people just looked like themselves. And it got me wondering when that changed.
When did natural become something we get work done to achieve? Don't we start out natural?
I don't have the full answer yet. That's Wednesday. But I want to know if you feel it too, or if it's just me. Hear me out and let me know below. — Kim

Some days you get a wake up call that's less "aha" and more "ouch." Today I'm unpacking a truth that hit me hard: most people simply aren't thinking about you, good or bad. Not your critics, not your comment section, not the people who cut you off in traffic. And once that actually sinks in, it's oddly freeing. I'm talking through what that realization taught me, and dropping a few actionable nuggets on handling strangers' opinions, finding strength on the hard days, and figuring out where to put all these big feelings we're not built to carry. Come sit with me. 🤍

In this episode, I sit down with hairstylist and salon owner Jasmine Khaitan to talk about something we don't talk about enough in this industry: mental health behind the chair. Jasmine opens up about closing her successful salon in New Jersey, moving to Alabama, and choosing her peace over burnout, even when it didn't make sense to everyone around her. We talk entrepreneurship, boundaries, protecting your energy, and what it really looks like to start over on your own terms. If you've ever felt like the industry asks too much of you, this one is for you. Thank you for being here and for supporting this show, I love you all for it. 🤍

So the CreaClip hit my feed after Shark Tank, and everybody's asking the same thing: can this little gadget actually replace your hairstylist? Well, I've got 30 years behind the chair and some thoughts. We're gonna watch the demo together, I'm gonna break down what's really happening when you chop into your own hair with a piece of plastic, and I'll give you my honest professional take. Have you ever used a CreaClip? Did you love it or regret it? Tell me in the comments, don't be shy. Love you guys.

Each week, Kim pulls from one of five colored folders.
Salon Stories: Client dilemmas, hairdresser experiences and the situations that prove salon life is never boring.
Beauty Culture: Changing beauty standards, cosmetic trends, aging and society’s relationship with appearance.
Life’s Lessons: Personal growth, relationships, confidence and navigating life’s unexpected shifts.
Money: Business, pricing, value, success and financial decisions affecting hairdressers and their clients.
Pop Culture: Celebrity news, viral moments and the larger questions hiding underneath what stopped the scroll.
Some episodes stay firmly in the hair world. Others take the conversation somewhere completely unexpected. What connects them all is Kim’s perspective, shaped by decades of listening, observing and working with people behind the salon chair.
