Someone asked me yesterday if I thought the latest virus was a judgment from God. They asked me if I thought it was a punishment from God. I thought about it, but not too long. I thought about God's Son and His last week here on earth and I wondered about all the bad things he suffered. I'm sure our evil enemies thought they were going to put God's plan to a stop by killing His Son. They thought they could change God's will. They didn't know everything then, and they don't know everything now. Neither do we, but God knows everything.
God's on His throne. His Son broke sin's strangle hold on His people. He is Holy.
As we all cry for God's help to overcome yet another deadly threat to our way of life I can't help but ask myself, why should He let us continue with our way of life. He's the King, not us. My Lord God can use even our enemy's deadly plans to accomplish His mission. I believe He makes everything work together for His good will, and as long as we're reconciled with Him, He makes everything work out for us, too.
Psalm 99 goes beyond time, just like my Lord God.
Lord, my God, I cry to you for help. I know you answer. May your Name be kept holy. Your kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us what we need. Forgive us. We forgive them. Don't let us fall into temptation. Rescue us from evil.
We know you make everything work together for the good of us who love you and are called according to your purpose for us. You knew us in advance, and you chose us to become like your Son.
Nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. Nothing in all creation can ever separate us from the love of God that's revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. He IS my Lord.
This is my 39th day on this crossing of my desert. I don't know where you are on your crossing, but I prayed for you tonight. I prayed for an extra boost for you from my Lord. We're all one day closer to forever. Thank God!
