I am afraid that there are many in the church today that will never hear a sermon on Psalm 5 and other texts like it. And the reason is undoubtedly the hard sayings found in these texts. But we are called to preach the whole counsel of God and when we fail to do this there are inevitably large gaps in our spiritual formation. At His appointed time He will bring this era of the gospel offer to a close. In short, God has the last word. It is time to quit playing games with God. This is now our third message for this advent season and we have been following the music. And as we turn to Luke chapter two the music gets louder as we are confronted by an army of angels forming a choir and singing what the church has historically called the “Gloria in Excelsis Deo.” In this message we follow this high song of praise straight to the source of this praise—Jesus Christ. And this is really reflective of what the Christian faith is—praise to God through Christ.
