It's a lie that is so ingrained in our culture that it has it's own merchandise. Printed on t'shirts, coffee mugs, etc., and it's often used as concluding advice in the most crucial of situations, "follow your heart." Our culture will tell us this is the infallible guide to making decisions, but the Bible gives us a very different picture.

Sometimes we can find ourselves facing seemingly impossible situations, and find ourselves believing "Well, _____ will never change." However, we believe and serve God, who has the power to create the heavens and the earth, certainly he hears the cries of our hearts, and has the ability to transform people and situations.

When we are feeling low, in the depths of the valley, we are vulnerable to believe the lie that God doesn't like us. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. God loves us so much that he sent his One and Only Son to die for us.

One of the lies that can invade our minds and hearts, “I Could Never Forgive That Person,” yet God’s word aims us higher, calling us to forgive as we have been forgiven - fully and completely. While God doesn't desire us to be unhappy, our happiness isn't necessarily his central desire for our lives. What God does desire for us is joy that is deeply rooted in Christ Jesus. In week three of our series, Liar Liar, we confront the lie, "God Just Wants Me To Be Happy."

If anyone has a reason not to have joy, it would be the apostle Paul. Here is a man who once plotted death against Christians, then miraculously saved by God, filled with the Holy Spirit, and gifted an unmatchable zeal to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations. With that, though, came hardship, imprisonment, beatings, and ultimately his death for preaching the Gospel. Yet, even while in chains, Paul urges us to rejoice always, regardless of our current situation. Today, we're looking a Philippians 4:2-9 and we'll discover four ways to protect our joy.

Deeply rooted Joy is not something we simply have, but something we fight for and a journey to pursue. We're contiuing in our series "How to Have Joy in an Unhappy World," and we're unpacking Philippians 3:12-21.
