We began a new series through the book of Habakkuk called "Yet I Will Rejoice."

In this first sermon in the series we get an overview of Habakkuk. Even though we might be beleaguered living in a world full of evil God knows about all the evil in this world and He will judge it in His own time. The key to living consistently as a Christian is to remember, "the righteous will live by faith." This means trusting and rejoicing in God’s grace and mercy knowing this world is not our home and God will preserve His people for eternity.

This was the final sermon in our series, “Imperishable” that has taken us through 1 Corinthians 15.

This week in verses 50-58 we are forced to answer the question, “Are we living in light of eternity?“ Paul teaches that our bodies need to be changed to take possession of the kingdom—to have eternal life. When Christ returns whether already dead or still alive at that time we will all be changed in a moment and then always be with the Lord who defeated death and sin finally.

God's people should respond to Christ's victory by living steadfast, intentionally remembering the gospel, and willingly sacrificing for one another. If we do this our labor for Christ will not be in vain, thus proving our faith is not in vain.

This week in verses 35-49 we learned that humans have a profound craving for immortality. The Corinthians struggled to believe in a bodily resurrection of all flesh because of the influence Greek philosophy had upon their thinking. They mockingly asked the questions, "How are the dead raised and with what kind of body are they raised?" So Paul sets forth to answer them with the goal of redirecting their thinking to believe the great truth of the Gospel that our perishable bodies will one day be resurrected imperishable bodies. There will be a continuity between our earthly bodies and our heavenly bodies, the same as our Lord Jesus’ body has. This is truth you can count on, so let this truth comfort you as go through life in a fallen world. Also, let this truth bring you to a place of unrestrained thankfulness and evangelistic zeal.

We continue our “Imperishable” sermon series in 1 Corinthians 15 focusing on verses 12-34.

Thomas preached this week asking the question “What is so significant about the resurrection to the Christian?” In this passage we see Paul continuing on the path of correcting the Corinthians’ understanding of the resurrection and its impact on the Christian, our hope and security. Thomas unpacked for us the truth that the resurrection is not a footnote on the Gospel but rather is critical to the fullness of the good news of Christ’s work on our behalf. We learned how a proper understanding of the resurrection puts this fleeting life in perspective as we look toward a day when Jesus will deliver the renovated and redeemed Kingdom back to the Father.

We began a new series, “Imperishable” that will take us through 1 Corinthians 15 over the next four weeks.

This week our text is from verses 1-11 and answers the question, “What is the Gospel?” Paul restates the Gospel to remove any misunderstandings the Corinthians had and in order to preserve the purity of the Gospel. We too must always proclaim the Gospel that is in accordance with the Scriptures and remember it is the safeguard for our souls.

With this sermon, we finish the series, Salvation and Suffering. This text is the Palm Sunday story from Matthew 21:1-11. In this text Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem challenges the people’s view of the Messiah as much different than they expected. Jesus was a very different kind of King with a very different kind of kingdom. His entry wasn’t the beginning of a military campaign but rather more of an execution march.

This must cause us to examine in whom we believe. Do we believe in the Jesus who is, or the Jesus we want him to be?

We finish the fourth and final servant song in Isaiah 53:4-12 as we see the Servant Substitute. God's appointed servant, the Lord Jesus came to suffer for our sin, he is our substitute, and he alone brings us peace with God.

As we come to the first half of the fourth servant song we learn that even though the servant came from humble beginnings, even though he was so unlike one worthy of distinction in his culture; he would have success, he would be undeterred in his mission and unsurpassed in his exaltation. Yet, he was rejected by people who would turn away from him, people who would despise him, people who missed him when he came because he did not meet their expectations. The suffering servant is not who we expected.

We continue our series, “Salvation And Suffering” that will lead us up to Easter working our way through the Servant Songs in Isaiah.

In this text, Isaiah 50:1-11, we learn that we cannot blame God for what is bad in our life, nor can we save ourselves. It is the LORD’s hand through His Servant that is powerful to save, and He will redeem. The salvation of the LORD will reach to the ends of the earth.

We continue learning about God’s Servant in our series, “Salvation And Suffering” that will lead us up to Easter.

In this text, Isaiah 49 we learn that the Servant we never expected redeems us by accomplishing the expectations God has for us. The servant who will be a man, comes from God to declare hope and to accomplish hope for the world.
