Freedom is freedom from the tyranny of the law. It is also the freedom to fulfill the law of love through Sprit empowered service.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump. A little lead-oxide poisons the whole loaf. A little false doctrine corrupts the gospel.

Liberators expect the liberated to live in freedom. Christ has set us free from bondage to the law, Paul calls us to live in that freedom, to stand firm and not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Who's your mama? Paul uses the imagery of two women, two covenants, and two cities, to show us that believers are spiritually born children of God. We are not children, born according to the flesh, like Ishmael. We are not children of the earthly Jerusalem. But we are children like Issac, Spiritually born, children of promise, children of the heavenly Jerusalem.

The discipleship process is painful. Paul likens it to the anguish of childbirth. It is worth the labor and the pain to see Christ formed in people.

What can we do as Christians? A better question: what can God do through us? A farmer toils in his fields and thanks God for the harvest. It is amazing that God does extraordinary things with ordinary sinners for his own glory.

What if the man Jesus healed from blindness decided he no longer wanted his sight? What if he poked his own eyes out? Adding our own works-based righteousness to the Gospel of Christ is like volunteering to back into darkness after having seen a great light. It is like the Israelites who wanted to go back to Egypt. Paul pleads with the Christian to stay in the light.

Paul helps us to marvel at and apply the glory of our salvation in Christ. The grave reality of our situation is that we were slaves, without any hope of escaping bondage. In Christ, however, we have been freed. He redeemed us and, grace upon grace, we have been made Sons. As sons of God, we are heirs of a glorious inheritance.
