"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?' the psalmist asks. It can be unsettling for us that God knows us through and through, and that God formed our inmost parts and knit us together. The psalmist speaks of a love that is so deep, so vast, so wide, and immeasurable, that it certain ways it does leave us speechless."

“Most of us have been fortunate to live in a Christian world that requires very little of us. For most of us, Christianity has been about a social identity rather than a conviction. We have rarely had to give up much to be part of the squad. However, Jesus’s strongest words about being a disciple are here in this passage from Luke. His point might not be about setting some high standard for following him; it might be to encourage us that when we face adversity, we look for him rather than anything else in our lives."

"In this week’s Gospel Lesson, Luke the gospel writer is being hospitable toward us by calling us to participate in this parable, nudging us to extend God’s hospitality throughout our community and our world. When we dine together, we not only share food but we share who we are. We find God’s loving humility in that we have been welcomed, loved, and accepted, and we are sent from the table to carry God’s humble message of love to the world."
