This audio guide provides a spoken liturgy for you to experience as you engage with the Stations of the Cross in the James Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church. The text is adapted from Clarence Enzler’s “Everyone’s Way of the Cross,” first published in 1970.
"When the world asks Christians the question, “Who are you?” the Church can respond with the answer, “We are the baptized.” We have buried our lives of being slaves of sin and the world and have been born anew and set afire by the Holy Spirit. We have risen to new life in Christ, we are claimed, we are spirit-filled, and we are set free. We are the people who have joined in the baptism of Jesus - and Jesus alone is our teacher, who came to the world but was not of it.

"Paul’s letter to the Philippians reminds us that our salvation is God’s good work in us. We have no need to fear or to sit idle; rather, we are extenders of God’s good things for our community and world. "
Rev. Dr. Matthew Williams preaches on Philippians 2:12-18 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL on 9/25/22.
"As Luke often does, we read this week of an upsetting of the status quo of society. Our general assumptions that the rich are inherently good or worthy and the poor are inherently bad or unworthy are completely reversed in the telling of this story and most of Luke’s gospel. The compassion and work of justice on behalf of the poor is a clear instruction in this story; we must follow Jesus’s commands and listen when he speaks.”
Rev. Bryant Manning preaches on Luke 16:19-31 at the contemporary SUN service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL on 9/25/22.
"By God’s grace we can plan and vision for the future with enthusiasm and hope, since we trust that we shall be a part of the future; when his kingdom shall come in all of its fullness. Together, we serve God in all of God’s goodness and we trust God to meet our each and every need."
Rev. Dr. Matthew Williams preaches on Luke 16:1-13 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL on 9/18/22.
“Just as in the ancient world, we live in the in-between where myriad religions and belief systems surround us and we live according to powers and law that we do not create. The world wants us to choose yet Paul continually seems to reject this dualistic way of thinking, while also not wholesale buying into the ways of the world. How to find that balance? Jesus, the only mediator between God and humanity.”
Rev. Bryant Manning preaches on 1 Timothy 2:1-7 at the contemporary SUN service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL on 9/18/22.
"As followers of Christ, we have been found by God. Thus, we are on a mission. We see all people as valuable, fearfully and wonderfully made, by God. Most of us, at one time or another, were that lost sheep that is mentioned in this week’s Gospel Lesson. Broken, lost, afraid. And a good shepherd came along named Jesus. He picked us up, and carried us to safety."
Rev. Dr. Matthew Williams preaches on Luke 15: 1-10 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL on 9/11/22.
