  • 9.2 Love | Gaspar Noé's Trip Trilogy

On today's episode, Matt and Tyrie go deeper into Gaspar, covering what is perhaps his most controversial film to date, 2015's Love - or as Tyrie calls it, good ol' fashion thumpin'. The boys discuss Noé's unique approach to cinematic depictions of intimacy, wanting more story in-between the sex scenes, and what exactly qualifies as art these days...cos it sure ain't a banana duck-taped to a wall!

Thanks for listening folks - tune in next week for the exciting Climax of the Trip Trilogy!

In today's episode the boys talk about an the icon- the QUEEN- that is Olivia Coleman in her award winning performance in The Favourite; which is incidentally the last episode in our Existential trilogy. Big shout out to Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone too; they both rock.

  • 8.2 The Killing of a Sacred Deer | Yorgos Lanthimos' Existential Trilogy

What is existence? What is our own lived reality? Sometimes it is joyous. Sometimes it is melancholic. Sometimes it is the act of sitting through a movie you don't much care for. That was Matt's experience anyway. In this 2nd instalment of Yorgos Lanthimos' Existential Trilogy, Tyrie plays the devil's advocate to Matt's whiney complaints, defending the auteur's grim, dread-drenched family drama, as the boys discuss the tricky process of turning ancient myths into modern tales, the strange choice to film real-life surgery, and the weird things Jared Leto sends his cast mates. Eat it up like a big bowl of spaghetti - Barry style.

  • 8.1 The Lobster | Yorgos Lanthimos' Existential Trilogy

Lobsters are a family (Nephropidae, synonym Homaridae) of marine crustaceans. They have long bodies with muscular tails and live in crevices or burrows on the sea floor. Although several other groups of crustaceans have the word "lobster" in their names, the unqualified term "lobster" generally refers to the clawed lobsters of the family Nephropidae...

Anyway this episode is about a movie called The Lobster and it has no lobsters in it whatsoever so Kabourophobes fear not. It's by Yorgos Lanthimos and it's the first episode of our self titled Existential Trilogy!

We talk about love, civilisation, social moires, you know, big picture stuff.

  • 7.3 The Adventures of Baron Munchausen | Terry Gilliam's Imagination Trilogy

It's the episode everyone's been waiting for. The Tripod offices have been inundated with fan mail, asking -demanding- that we talk about this milestone in motion pictures. That's right today we're talking The Adventures of Baron Munchausen! Definitely one of the most well known and 100% not cursed movies of all time. A movie beloved by all. An episode that is sure to top the charts.

But wait, it get's better. A movie this monumental needs an expert, so the boys secured a special guest: It's Simon Harvey, a certified wine-y-boy and lover of cinema.

  • 6.3 Chasing Amy | Kevin Smith's Jersey Trilogy
On this third and final stop on their way through the Jersey Trilogy, Matt and Tyrie take a closer look at 1997's Chasing Amy. After his much-maligned Mallrats, this semi-autobiographical piece was Kevin's return to critical acclaim. However, it was not without its detractors. So how does the film stack up in modern times and also alongside Smith's filmography? Join the nerds to hear their patented hot takes as they drive out of Jersey towards the endless horizon, in whatever direction the wheel of trilogies takes/forces them.

  • 6.2 Mallrats | Kevin Smith's Jersey Trilogy

Oof Magoof! Here it is folks. Mallrats: Proof that lightning doesn't strike twice (Sorry KS We love you!) It was a critical and financial bomb and it almost put Kevin out of work, but it has since garnered a cult following. And it also kicked started the whole cinematic universe thing. It walked so Marvel could run, and that's worth talking about. And listening to... Please?
