  • 21.3 In the Mood for Love | Wong Kar-Wai's Love Trilogy

In the mood for pod? Well good, cos the boys are back with what Tyrie dubs one of the greatest films of the 21st century - In the Mood for Love. To take on this behemoth of cinema, writer and all-round smart guy Arden Baker elevates the conversation by unpacking the nuance of the films translation, historical context and of course, those knock-out dresses! Enjoy the yearning folks.

  • 21.2 Happy Together | Wong Kar-Wai's Love Trilogy

The second episode of 2025 is here and what a whopper it is. Not only are the boys talking about one of the most celebrated films in queer cinema history, Happy Together (1997), they're also joined by a special guest- no a VERY special guest: Simon Harvey. Last time he joined Tripod, the show got a massive bump in ratings, can lightning strike twice? Hopefully it can.

Anyway, in this episode you can learn more about the free flowing creative process of Wong Kar-Wai and the hidden meaning of this amazing film.

  • 21.1 Chungking Express | Wong Kar-Wai's Love Trilogy
We're BAAACCCCCKKKK! It's poddin' time people, and what better way to celebrate the month of love than with the Love Trilogy...three films about the wonders, warmth and dizzying heights that love...wait...wait a goddamn second! These movies aren't about love at all! At least not the cute and cuddly way Hollywood would have you view it! Enter, Hong-Kong legend, Wong Kar-wai and his revolutionary take on love, loneliness and loss. This week, it's Chungking express...which is WAAY better than the Polar Express just in case you were wondering! Did you miss us?

  • 20.3 A Christmas Carol | Robert Zemeckis' Uncanny Trilogy

Merry Christmas, every one! Or at least it was, until Matt and Tyrie had to watch Bobby Z's 2009 take on this holiday classic. But hey, Tasman is back and he kind of liked it! One man's lump of coal is another man's magical sleigh bell as they say! The guys talk about how strange the characters look in this decidedly bleak film (spoiler alert, it's uncanny), and try to figure out what makes this particular adaptation just a little dull. As Tripod closes the book on Zemekis (for now) and indeed on its 20th Trilogy, we look forward to our Year in Review episode next week to cap off a wondrous 2024! As always, thanks for listening!

  • 20.1 The Polar Express | Robert Zemeckis' Uncanny Trilogy

Oh we got it HOT HOT! Matt and Tyrie are kicking off their 20th trilogy with a scolding mug of hot chocolate and plenty of hot takes too! As is tradition for their annual Christmas trilogy, the boys are once again joined by Tyrie's twin brother, Tasman, as they attempt to unpack the 2004 holiday classic(?), and first ever completely mo-cap film, Robert Zemekis' The Polar Express.

Volume low on this one listeners...the guys scream an awful lot in this one.

  • 19.2 Sleepless in Seattle | The When Hanks Met Ryan Trilogy

They say there is a very fine line between love and hate. In this episode, Matt and Tyrie put that theory to the test as they go to war over one of the most successful rom-coms of all time. The boys discuss the city of Seattle (with shocking minimal Frasier talk), the career and legacy of Nora Ephron, and of course, whether this trilogy holds up to any scrutiny...with one final instalment to come! Enjoy!
