Superhero here....superhero there....They're everywhere but now James Gunn has given us his first look at a superhero show with his "unique" brand of comedy. Peacemaker is a spin-off from Gunn's 2021 movie "The Suicide Squad" played by John Cena and stars Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante... I mean, Adrian Chase, Jennifer Holland as Agent Harcourt and Steve Agee as John Economos aka "dye beard" and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith aka White Dragon aka Peacemakers dad. We pretty much love everything about this show and we highly recommend it.
Finally, we watch the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife and even though I have a few issues with the story and how they handled the extra characters, it was still a great movie that made us laugh and smile all through out. Written and Directed by Jason Reitman and staring McKenna Grace as Phoebe, Finn Wolfhard as Trevor, Paul Rudd as Grooberson and Carrie Coon as Callie.
So join us once more as we watch and talk about Peacemaker and Ghostbusters: Afterlife
While we stick to the theme of murder shows, Tara and I watch one of the longest show titles we have ever watched and try to make it make sense from the mixed reviews coming out about this show. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window is more than just a mouthful, its a show that runs a thin line of being a drama and being a satire on the genre that it takes it's inspiration from. While most people may have a issues with what this show wants to be, Tara and I just embrace it for the oddness that it is. Spoilers at the 14 minute mark.
As we now have finished Yellowjackets on Showtime, our craving for another season has only grown. The first minutes of this show teased us with something that we just wanted to know more about, both in how we got there and how the characters will end up with trying to live normal lives after a very tragic event.
Finally we go into a preview of Murderville, out now on Netflix, so join us on Troy and Tara Watch.
Due to a mysterious reason...our first attempt at recording this episode did not turn our well....to say the least. But now with that out of the way, Tara and I get to talking about Netflix's Archive 81. This supernatural thriller about at man hired to restore a set of VHS tapes that were damaged in an apartment fire, but not everything is as it seems and the further he digs the more he finds out how everything is connected!
Even though we are late to the party.... we start finally start HBO's Search Party. Now on its 5th season, we try to make sense of the reckless choices made by main character Dory. Then in true Troy and Tara fashion, we go off on a tangent about other great shows including HBO's The Righteous Gemstones and Disney+'s The book of Boba Fett and why Mando still has our hearts.
So join us as we go on a rant about what we are watching on another episode of Troy and Tara Watch!
Not knowing what we were getting into, Tara and I watched The White Lotus on HBO Max, with little explanation as to what it would be. Needless to say, if you have seen it, is that this is a 6 episode drama/dark comedy that is meant to make you feel angry and upset with almost every person you meet and the conversations they have, but not in a bad way. What makes this a must watch is not the comedy or the drama but its the message... you are supposed to get upset and frustrated and that not everything is going to have a happy ending. Then doing a complete 180 we talk about Disney's Encanto. The music, the art and animation all make this a great move but the cast and the writing make it even more amazing. This has been one of Tara's top movies and it's not hard to see why. So come and join us as we get frustrated and upset but also excited and happy as we discuss what we watched.
Before we get to far into the Christmas Season, we try to keep the scary alive with a watching of Werewolves Within! This hidden gem of a movie that released July 2, 2021 stars Sam Richardson and Milana Vayntrub, directed by Josh Ruben and written by Mishna Wolff, based off a 2016 VR video game from Ubisoft, similar to Among Us. This suspenseful comedy shows the best of its cast and each of the characters that come into the scene.
Tara and I are no strangers when it comes to competition shows and we felt like this was the perfect time to discuss what works, what doesn't, our top 3 and what we would make into a competition show. While there might be many competition shows, we turn our focus to the creative competition and how they have changed over the years...with the help of the Great British Baking Show.
Join us as we get a little bit too excited about the competition and send us your top competitions or an idea for one to [email protected] or on twitter @NightsidePI.
Tara and I are back at it but this time we are watching the ever popular Squid Game so SPOILERS!!! Our discussion revolves around the lessons the show is trying to teach, what it says about the people who watch it and how we felt about the ending. From the pastel MC Escher stairs to the innocent child games the contestants are "forced" to play, we see why this worked so well and what this type of entertainment could lead to. Green light yourself to enjoy this episode but Red light yourself if you still need to see the show.
After being away for some time I wanted to try something new but this might be something in and of itself. I sit down with my lovely wife Tara as we discuss Midnight Mass on Netflix. We talk about deeper meanings of the show and what it's messages mean for both of us. Keeping in line with the spooky month, we also watch Identity from a more modern lens.
With the release of all these dungeon crawlers on GamePass, how are you to know which one to pick and what one is going to keep you coming back for more (cough, cough Hades). I try my hand at the newest of the dungeon crawlers, Boyfriend Dungeon, a dating sim within a dungeon crawler and see if I love the dagger or the sword. To get myself warmed up the the main event that is Hades, I play Curse of the Dead Gods and fall in love with.... Wait! That was the last game, this one has you traversing ancient Mayan and Aztec ruins all while trying not to curse yourself along the way. My long wait has finally come to an end and now I can fully get into Hades, which is definitely with the praise that it gets, and get to battle my way through Greek monsters to prove to my father Hades that I'm not just a boy, but a real man/demi god/prince of the Underworld. Join me for this episode of Welcome to the Nightside.
