On its face, it sounds horrific: a mom allows her five-year-old son to walk alone to a neighborhood pond, a half mile away. That mom is Karyann Parkinson and she’s speaking out after being convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Parkinson is also now on a state abuse registry for the next seven years. The mom of five says she had just walked to the pond six times with her son that day, in their gated community, complete with security guards. It was one of those guards who escorted the boy home, and ultimately called police. Debate is now raging online among parents, how young is too young to walk alone, and what is the role of the state when it comes to making parenting decisions? A horrific story out of an affluent Chicago suburb has the country stunned by the similarities between Lindsay Clancy and 38-year-old mother of four, Corie Walshe. Walshe’s older two kids made the unimaginable discovery of their 2-year-old baby brother, Barrett, hanging from the basement rafters after they came home from school. Their mom was in the bathtub, reportedly trying to kill herself. Hours earlier she had been in a group chat with friends talking about the Lindsay Clancy trial, and police say Walshe told them she killed her toddler because he was the “anti-Christ.” Thankfully an infant was found unharmed in the home, but now Walshe is charged with first degree murder, leaving family, friends and the entire community in shock. A new report from Anthropic is adding new concerns about the growing dangers of artificial intelligence, highlighting the real-life concerns after one if its lead researchers warned of AI’s potential to destroy all of mankind by the end of the decade. Anthropic says over the past eight months, it’s identified and disrupted dozens of potential plots to use its technology “for malicious activity.” That includes blocking scientists who have used its AI models to conduct research that could have developed biological weapons. Experts say the development of biological pathogens is among the gravest concerns they have when it comes to the rapidly growing technology. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The reaction has been mixed, following Phoebe Bridgers red carpet appearances at the Venice Film Festival. Bridgers has been both praised and shamed by fans for not only revealing her massive pit stain on the red carpet just days after showing her leg hair on the red carpet. It’s been a debate for decades now, going all the way back to 1999 and Julia Roberts’ arm pit hair reveal during her red carpet appearance at the London premiere of ’Notting Hill.” Two years ago, Dove had a #FreeThePits campaign, encouraging women to be confident regardless of their underarm choices… but just how far have we come? The President made yet another questionable claim about his experience and involvement during and in the aftermath the 9/11 attacks while honoring first responders at an event in DC on Tuesday. Trump claims two strong fireman lifted him up and pulled him from a building because of fears that the United States Steel building might come crashing down. The problem, fact checkers maintain that Trump was actually at Trump Towers at the time of the attack, which is several miles away from the “creaky building” which he described as “not so far from us.” This is just the latest in a series of conflicting and erroneous comments the President has made over the years regarding his involvement and recollection of his role, but Trump has fired back at his critics in a lengthy Truth Social post, insisting it’s all “fake news.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
