In 1986, Richard Cooey and a friend kidnapped, raped, and murdered two University of Akron students, Wendy Offredo and Dawn McCreery. Although the case was pretty open-and-shut, Richard Cooey submitted an appeal against his death sentence, using a unique reason that I had never heard of any one else using. In 2003, Timothy Schuster and his wife, Larissa, were going through an extremely contentious divorce. The major points of contention were who would get custody of their minor child and who would maintain ownership in their company, an agricultural research laboratory run by Larissa. Larissa was an extremely manipulative and vindictive woman, who tormented Timothy up until July 10, 2003, when she escalated to such an extent that she was dubbed “The Acid Lady” by the press after she was arrested.
