On the evening of November 17th, 1978, four employees aged 18-20 were closing the Burger Chef restaurant in Speedway, IN. Unbeknownst to them, what was supposed to be another average night turned dark as quickly as it had ended. To this day, despite perpetrators being confidently identified, insufficient evidence has left this case to be without prosecution, deeming it cold. Kayla and I bring this ancient case back to life.

20-year-old Colleen Stan partook in the same activity that many people her age did in the late 70s: she hitchhiked all the way from her home in Eugene, Oregon towards a city in California where her best friend was having a birthday party. She wanted to surprise her so she made her way without telling her of her plan. Stan, an experienced hitchhiker, got in the car with a family of three: married couple Cameron and Janice Hooker and their infant child, headed towards their residence in Red Bluff, California. They seemed innocent enough, but Stan was going to learn that some things sometimes aren't what they seem and gut instincts never lie. Kayla and I take you all through the ride that inspired the Lifetime movie "Girl In The Box" and how Colleen Stan's story earned her the same moniker.
