Jesus took his disciples to Caesarea Philippi, one of the most idolatrous, sexually immoral locations within walking distance of Jerusalem/Galilee and revealed Himself to them as the Christ or Messiah. As the disciples are receiving this revelation, Jesus calls Peter ‘Simon son of Jonah’. In this message, we will discuss the significance of Jesus taking His disciples to this location, the name He calls Peter, and the declaration Jesus makes about the Gates of Hades not prevailing against them.
* Special thanks goes to Dean Briggs and his book ‘Ekklesia Rising’, which was instrumental in getting me started on a deeper study of the meaning of Simon Bar-Jonah and providing insights into the Gates of Hades.
