Behind the doors of residential schools, they faced relentless attempts to reshape their minds and erase their spirits—all in the name of 'civilization.'But what was life truly like for those taken? What scars still linger? 

Today, we open a chapter in history that many tried to bury—a story of resilience, pain, and the fight to hold onto culture in the face of erasure. In the Yucatan peninsula there’s a creature that lurks in the jungles that goes way back to the Mayan empire.  I’m talking about the Huay Chivo, this is a shape-shifting shaman who takes on the form of a half-man, half-goat. Its body is covered in thick black fur, its legs resemble those of a goat or horse, and its eyes burn a haunting red, piercing through even the darkest nights."

"The Huay Chivo is a legendary creature found in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, particularly within the Yucatec Maya traditions. It is described as a shaman who can transform into a half-man, half-goat being, often characterized by glowing red eyes, thick black fur, and the ability to change into various animals. The creature is associated with dark sorcery and is believed to cause illness or misfortune with a glance. Reports often describe it as preying on livestock and creating fear within communities.

In our last episode, we explored the rise and fall of the mighty Inca Empire, the capture and execution of its last emperor, and the betrayal that forever changed the course of history. But his death wasn’t the end—it was just the beginning. According to legend, as the emperor drew his final breath, he cursed those who had betrayed him and the sacred gold they had stolen from his people.

Francisco Pizarro, a determined and ruthless conquistador, captured the Inca emperor during their fateful meeting in the town of Cajamarca. Despite promising to free him after receiving an enormous ransom of gold and silver, Pizarro betrayed , sentencing him to death after a mock trial.

On August 29, 1533, the emperor was executed, strangled to death by garrote. But according to legend, before he died, he uttered a final curse—a warning to those who had desecrated the sacred treasures of the Inca.

Today, we’re taking you into the heart of a legend that stretches back nearly 500 years—a tale of betrayal, greed, and a curse said to haunt all who dared steal the riches of the Inca Empire.  That's right folks were talking about the curse of the Incas.
This was the Incan Empire, temples made of gold, sitting under the sun and stretching across the Andean mountains. The whole place was massive. Then the Spanish conquistadors showed up. It was two completely different worlds colliding. Blood everywhere, a king gets betrayed, and then... well, that’s when the curse begins."

 It’s late… past midnight. You’re home alone, curled up on the couch, and there’s a knock at the door. Not a gentle knock. A slow, persistent tap that echoes through the house, pulling you from your comfort.

You rise, and peer through the peephole. Standing there, in the dead of night, are two children. A boy and a girl, heads bowed, dressed in strange, outdated clothes. They don’t look up at first. You consider ignoring them, but something compels you—some part of you feels an odd sympathy. They’re children, after all. Alone, cold… right?

You crack the door, and that’s when they raise their heads, looking up in unison, revealing eyes like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Eyes as black as midnight, empty of light, of life. Eyes that pull you in, hypnotic and hollow. Their voices are soft, insistent, polite. They only want to come inside… if you’ll let them.

That’s when you feel it. A wave of dread so deep it roots you in place, your instincts screaming to shut the door, to turn away, but something stronger keeps you there. They say it again, “Let us in…”
