We all have fears and negative beliefs about different topics, but something we may not realize is that many of them are the result of events that have happened to us in the past, and shaped our personality and actions.
But there are ways to stop operating in fear, and get the help and support we need.
TrulyLivin's Charm London talks to Cinnamon Reiheld, a trauma therapist in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Reiheld talks about counseling first responders including firefighters and police officers, ways adults handle trauma versus how kids handle it, and how therapy can help.
This talk was originally a Facebook Live on our TrulyLivin Facebook page. You will hear some of the comments and questions asked by people who watched this original broadcast.
EPISODE SHOW NOTES
1:31
Cinnamon is one of the TrulyLivin featured coaches in Emotional Wellness.
Cinnamon is a trauma therapist.
Cinnamon Reiheld: “It took me a long time in my own personal journey to figure out that what I was experiencing was PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). I didn't know that is what it was. And, I learned from that how difficult it can be to get beyond something when you don't even know what it is.”
2:50
Cinnamon talks about taking a new job in Cincinnati, for an organization where a firefighter had recently died while fighting a fire, caused by arson. She partnered with the city to provide clinical support to the firefighters. It was eye-opening.
“Once I started doing it, it seemed so overwhelming how much there was a need, how difficult it was for them to acknowledge that there was a need, how few of us, the therapists, even knew what to do with them. And bringing that altogether... and finding people who would be willing to take on what seems like a really difficult task of treating first responders.”
4:08
Cinnamon talks about how that experience prompted her to go into private practice to help first responders, their spouses, and others who have experienced a traumatic experience.
5:16
An issue doesn't have to be a HUGE thing to make an impact on our lives.
Cinnamon and Charm talk about that voice in our heads that we all get, warning us that if we do something we'll feel embarassment, shame, rejection, etc.
We hear that voice enough, and we start to believe what we think.

Cinnamon talks about all the ways trauma shows up in our lives, and how she helps her clients.
Many times our actions and reactions are motivated by fear and perceived threats.
