This week marks six months until the US midterm elections - with President Donald Trump's handling of the war in Iran threatening to become a liability for Republicans.

Polling conducted by ABC News US, The Washington Post and Ipsos found the President's disapproval rating has hit a new high.

The numbers were driven by the President's leadership on the Iran war - as well as economic issues like the cost of living and inflation.

Congressional insiders say Republicans are getting anxious that they could be facing a wipe out if things don't improve before November.
