US President Donald Trump has ordered troops into the west coast city, authorising them to use "full force" if needed to protect federal immigration facilities from what he calls domestic terrorists.

Oregon's Democratic leaders say the city is calm and the move is an abuse of power. They warn Mr Trump may be replaying his 2020 playbook, when federal forces sent to Portland only escalated protests rather than ending them.
