Brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET and hosted by Scott "DR GX" Goldfine — musicologist and author of “Everything Is on THE ONE: The First Guide of Funk” ― “TRUTH IN RHYTHM” is the interview show that gets DEEP into the pocket with contemporary music’s foremost masters of the groove.

Featured in TIR Episode 154 (Part 1 of 2): Bassist-composer Joe Plass, an original member of one of the 1980s’ most underappreciated funk bands -- Shock. Best known for their hit single, “Let’s Get Crackin,” the group, which also featured brothers Roger and Steve Sause as well as former Pleasure and later Dazz Band guitarist Marlon McClain, released four albums in the early 1980s, one in the late ‘80s and a final studio effort in 1994.

Among Shock's other killer tracks were “Let Your Body Do the Talkin’,” “Electrophonic Phunk,” “Loosen Up,” “Nite Life,” “Crank It Up,” “San Juan,” “Waitin’ on Your Love” and “Time or Our Lives.” Plass also played on hit albums by saxman Kenny G, and in 2012 released his solo set, “After Hours.”

In 2007, Shock achieved some much-deserved notoriety by being inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. Here, Plass reveals the whole kit and caboodle.

Featured in TIR Episode 153 (Part 3 of 3): One of three founding brothers of one of the most popular and successful R&B groups of the 1980s and 90s -- percussionist, trombonist and composer Jonathan Lewis of the prolific Atlantic Starr.

The band scored five consecutive Top 10 R&B albums from 1981-1987 and racked up an amazing 16 Top 20 hit singles between 1978 and 1991. Those tracks include “Send for Me,” “Circles,” “Touch a Four-Leaf Clover,” “Freak-A-Ristic,” “Secret Lovers,” “If Your Heart Isn’t in It,” “My First Love,” “Masterpiece” and “Always,” which went to No. 1 on both the R&B and pop singles charts.

Featured in TIR Episode 152 (Part 2 of 2): Longtime Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer Andre Foxxe Williams. A talented child musician, he found his way into the Parliament/Funkadelic camp while still a teenager, forming the band Trey-Lewds Flastic Brain Flam with Tracey Lewis, George Clinton’s son. He later became famous for wearing a wedding gown while performing with P-Funk.

That began a long association during which Foxxe would perform with the P-Funk All-Stars and Jimmy G. and the Tackheads. The Incorporated Thang Band launched in 1986, a group comprised with P-Funk members such as Lige Curry. Foxxe was a key member signed to Warner Brothers Records, and his first solo project the “A. Foxxe Jam” was released on the Don Davis label I.T.M. The Psychedelic Ghetto Pimpz is his most recent project.

Others he has worked with include: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Too Short, Phillipe Wynne, Amp Fiddler and Tony Allen. Here, the outspoken Foxxe spills it all, pulling few punches describing his colorful P-Funk odyssey including his claim of being fired more times by George Clinton than anyone else. No funk fan will want to miss this one!
