Charles J Read is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), U.S Tax Court Practitioner ( USTCP), member of Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC) and the Founder of GetPayroll.
A Vietnam war vet, and a business owner for over 30 years, his companies have provided full-service payroll services, payroll tax services, and other payroll-related services since 1991.
Charles is an accomplished senior executive and entrepreneur with more than fifty years of financial leadership experience in a broad range of industries and author of four books, the latest one being The Payroll Book: A Guide For Small Businesses and Startups.
He has over 400 media appearances under his belt - including Fox News, Forbes, Huffington Post and others.

Legendary multi–BAFTA Award winning producer John Lloyd CBE is the founder of QI and the producer of some of Britain’s best-loved TV shows. He is of the same opinion as Plato: unmitigated seriousness has no place in human affairs. On the other hand, he also likes A. N. Whitehead’s assertion that it’s more important for something to be interesting than true (although it’s more likely to be interesting if it is true).
When it comes to producing and presenting comedic content, John Lloyd is unmatched. He is best known for his work on Blackadder, QI, Spitting Image, and as a presenter for BBC Radio 4’s The Museum of Curiosity. He has crafted a career that puts cheerfulness, kindness and creativity at the centre.
John is a really interesting person and a lovely man. I first came across him at The QI Club in Oxford in 2005, where I was invited to consider ‘are you quite interesting?’ A great question! His insightful and delicately provocative take on life, curiosity and self-knowledge is inspiring. Someone to learn from for leaders today.

With the right kinds of support and input, NECs can help themselves to thrive and succeed in the role; for the good of the business, the Board and themselves.In this episode I explore this, and pass on a bit of the wisdom shared with me by NECs a few years ago during the research phase of my eBook ‘Autonomy in Relationship - the Human Side of Being a Non-Exec Chairman’.
Non-exec Chairmen are mature, experienced and capable people. They are relatively self-sufficient and able to manage all sorts of challenges. And - they are human beings who benefit from a bit of assistance. Some of this assistance they can provide for themselves. Some of it is more effectively drawn from others. NECs need self-support, external support and relevant input.
The more evolved we are - the more sophisticated and nuanced the support and assistance we require. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, immaturity or self-indulgence. Reaching out is a sign of strategic wisdom. In recognition that we are each our own greatest asset, and the leveraging of that asset yields extraordinary dividends.

John Heron RIP & Why Emotional Competence is Essential for Leaders Today
John Heron, one of the giants of Humanistic Psychology, passed away in November 2022.In his 1990 piece ‘The Politics of Transference’ John lays out three fundamental guiding principles:
“The first is that, both theoretically and practically, the intrapsychic and interpersonal dimensions of transference are to be seen always in relation to the society-wide and political dimensions.“This leads on to the second principle, which is that the right to be emotionally competent - which includes the ability to understand and master the dynamics of transference - is the birthright of every person in society.“Until this claim is acknowledged, the whole social, organizational and political process will be distorted by people unawarely acting out compulsive victim, compulsive oppressor, compulsive rebel and compulsive rescuer roles.“This in turn leads to the third principle, that the right to emotional competence is an inalienable and central part of the right of everyone to a proper education.”While I don’t entirely agree that any particular type of education is our birthright I do agree with everything else John says here.In short, leaders wishing to make a significant shift of any kind - for themselves, their business or both - are well advised to invest in their emotional competence.
