  • The Words of Life
All the Words of This Life The central truth of this message comes from Acts 5:20: "Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life." Life in Christ's kingdom is not a vague spirituality or merely a set of religious ideas. This life has words. God has spoken about life, love, wisdom, grace, righteousness, truth, salvation, and how His people are to walk. Therefore, believers are called to build their lives upon what God has revealed rather than upon feelings, cultural opinions, or human definitions. The disciples were always going because Jesus was always working and leading them somewhere. God's mission ordinarily involves a people, a place, a purpose, and a promise. Paul began in Damascus because that was where he was, and the apostles were sent to the temple because that was where the people were. In the same way, believers should recognize the people God has already placed around them and faithfully speak the words of life there. When the Gospel Becomes "Our Gospel" In 1 Thessalonians 1, Paul calls it "our gospel." Not because he invented it, but because the gospel had become inseparable from his life. The Thessalonian believers received the same gospel until it became theirs too. Their faith became known everywhere because they had: • turned to God from idols, • begun serving the living and true God, • and were waiting for His Son from heaven. That is what the gospel does. It changes allegiance. Jesus becomes our King, and our life begins showing that we belong to another kingdom. The Messenger Must Be Genuine Paul reminded the Thessalonians that his preaching did not come through error, uncleanness, deceit, flattering words, co

  • Discernment in an Emotion-Driven Age
Our culture tells us to trust our hearts, follow our feelings, and live our truth. Scripture gives Christians a better foundation. God created emotions as gifts, but emotions were never intended to function as our authority. In this episode of the Weekly Watch, Dave Jenkins explains why feelings are real but not always reliable, why spiritual experiences must be tested by Scripture, and how Christians can submit their emotions to the unchanging truth of God's Word. Feelings change, but Jesus Christ and His Word remain unchanged. For more from Contending for the Word, please visit: https://servantsofgrace.org/contending-for-the-word-podcast/

  • How God Uses Suffering to Shape Faith
Suffering is never easy, but it is not meaningless for the Christian. In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins explains how God uses trials to produce endurance, refine genuine faith, form godly character, deepen hope, and draw His people into greater dependence on Himself. Romans 5:3–5 teaches that suffering produces endurance, character, and hope. First Peter 1:6–7 reminds believers that trials test and refine faith like gold. God is at work even in painful seasons, shaping His people and strengthening their trust in Christ. Listen as we consider the biblical purpose of suffering and the steady hope believers have in the God who is near, faithful, and wise. • John 13:1-15 – Are You Washing My Feet?
During biblical times, most people wore sandals and walked from place to place on dirty roads. Because of that, it was common to find a basin of water near the entrance of every house for foot washing. Sometimes, the guest would have to wash his own feet. At other times, a servant would be provided to wash people's feet. Imagine what it would have been like to have the servant's job of washing people's feet. That would not be an enjoyable job—especially on a hot day. However, the guests would certainly appreciate the service rendered. In today's passage, Jesus and His disciples had arrived at their destination and were about to eat supper. No doubt they had walked a distance to get there and had dirty feet. But when they arrived, there was no servant waiting to wash the dirt off of their feet. What were they to do? To the surprise of the disciples, Jesus got up and washed each disciple's feet. He used this act of humility to teach them the important truths we will see today.

  • What We Open…
The message "What We Open" centers on a simple missionary pattern seen in Paul's ministry in Acts 17 and in the believers at Thessalonica: We open our mouths. We open the Word. We open our lives. And we trust God to open hearts. Paul came to Thessalonica doing what had become his regular custom. He opened his mouth and spoke about Jesus. He opened the Scriptures and showed from the Older Testament that the Christ had to suffer, die, and rise again. Then he opened his life, demonstrating that the message he preached was the same message that had radically transformed him. Paul had once hated Christ and persecuted His people, but Jesus interrupted him with grace, changed his direction, and made the former enemy of the gospel one of its greatest witnesses. The message emphasizes that our testimony is not, "Look how perfect I am," but rather, "Look what Jesus has done in me." We did not always see life the way we see it now. We did not always love what we love now or value what we value now. But Christ invaded our lives with grace, and His Word began conforming us to Himself. Paul's testimony in Acts 26 reinforces this truth. He said he was "not disobedient to the heavenly vision." God gave him a purpose, and persecution, prison, chains, and hardship could not cancel that assignment. He started in Damascus—where God met him—and then carried the message outward. The application is that every believer has a "Damascus," a people and place where God has already positioned us to begin serving. We do not have to cross an ocean to become missionaries. We start where God has placed us. Paul could continue because, as he said, he had "obtained help from God." His strength was not

  • Ecclesiastes 10: Wisdom and Folly in Leadership and Daily Life
Ecclesiastes 10 reveals how wisdom and folly affect leadership, work, speech, influence, and daily decisions. Dave Jenkins explains why even a little foolishness can cause great damage, how wisdom brings stability and direction, and why wise leadership, careful preparation, diligent work, and gracious speech matter. The chapter ultimately points us to Jesus Christ, the perfectly wise King who rules with righteousness, truth, grace, and justice. • Who Are We? More Than Conquerors
Who Are We? — More Than Conquerors The central truth of this message is that God redeems us, reveals Himself to us, keeps us connected to Christ, and then sends us as witnesses of what we have come to know and believe. From Isaiah 43 through Acts 22, John 14–16, and Romans 8, the same pattern appears: chosen by grace, taught by truth, sustained by His presence, and sent to testify of Him. Isaiah 43 begins with the wonder of redemption: "I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine." God does not promise His people that they will never face waters, rivers, or fires. He promises something greater: "I will be with you." Our security is not found in easier circumstances but in belonging to the Lord. Redemption also reminds us that judgment cannot simply disappear. Divinely and nationally, He showed mercy to Israel and gave others nations to His wrath in their place. National mercy only leads to a Redeemer who was given for those who would be personally redeemed. While mercy fell upon a people wrath fell upon another people. Ultimately, the judgment our personal sins deserved fell upon the sufficient Substitute, the Lord Jesus Christ. We did not deserve His payment, but He took our place. From there comes responsibility. God says in Isaiah 43:10, "You are My witnesses… that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He." Acts 22 gives the same pattern in Paul's life: God chose him to know His will, see the Just One, hear His voice, and become His witness. God reveals Himself so that we may know Him; knowing Him leads to believing Him; believing Him produces a life that witnesses of Him John 17. Jesus also prepares His people by telling them

  • Why Those Leaving the New Age Need Discipleship and the Local Church
Leaving the New Age involves more than rejecting false beliefs. New believers must learn to think, worship, build relationships, and live according to the Word of God. In this episode, Doreen Virtue explains why those coming out of New Age spirituality need biblical discipleship and active involvement in a faithful local church. She addresses spiritual warfare, lost friendships, church hurt, corporate worship, Christian fellowship, baptism, the Lord's Supper, and the importance of serving alongside other believers. Although online teaching can be helpful, it cannot replace belonging to the body of Christ. Christians need the biblical instruction, accountability, encouragement, fellowship, ordinances, and relationships God provides through the local church.
