  • WCF Chapter 3 Of God's Eternal Decrees
The Sunday School lesson explores the doctrine of God's eternal decree as outlined in Chapter 3 of the Westminster Confession of Faith, emphasizing that God sovereignly ordains all that comes to pass according to His wise and holy will. It distinguishes between God's active role in salvation and His passive role in reprobation, clarifying that He is not the author of sin but works through secondary causes to bring about good from evil. The teaching highlights the comfort found in God's unchangeable nature and foreknowledge, contrasting this with the human desire for control and the theological error of middle knowledge. By examining key passages such as Romans 9 and 1 Peter 2, the message asserts that election is solely of grace, while reprobation is a just passing by of those who deserve judgment. The lesson concludes with a pastoral caution to handle these profound truths with humility and care, recognizing the mystery involved in God's unsearchable judgments.

  • Psalm 13
This sermon explores Psalm 13 as a profound expression of the paradox inherent in the Christian life, where human anguish coexists with divine truth. The text moves through three distinct stages, beginning with the desperate question of "how long" God will hide His face, shifting to a plea for spiritual illumination, and culminating in a declaration of trust in God's steadfast love. By referencing Martin Luther and 2 Corinthians, the message illustrates that while believers may feel abandoned or sorrowful, they are never buried by their enemies because their hope is anchored in the unchanging character of God. The sermon affirms that lamentation is a valid human response to suffering, yet it always leads to joy-filled trust when the believer looks beyond their circumstances to the covenant faithfulness of Christ.

  • Devo 116: God Knows Your Thoughts
The devotional centers on the transformative power of aligning one's thoughts with God's eternal purposes, drawing from Jeremiah 29:11–14 to affirm that God has plans for peace, hope, and a fulfilled future for His people. It warns against the dangers of prideful thinking, particularly self-comparison and self-deception, as highlighted in Romans 12:3 and 2 Corinthians 10:12, emphasizing that such thinking leads to spiritual distortion. The message calls for a threefold response: accepting one's current circumstances as part of God's sovereign plan, repenting of complaining, and submitting fully to God's will through the renewal of the mind. By rejecting worldly values and embracing divine truth, believers are invited to live as living sacrifices, transformed by God's mercy and freed from the destructive patterns of comparison and pride.

  • What Was the ACTUAL Point of Circumcision?
Circumcision was established by God to identify specific earthly promises to Abraham and his descendants and to the nation that would come from him and through which the Messiah would come. Specifically, it was a sign that Abraham would be the father of many nations, and that through Israel, Jesus the Christ, the seed, would be born. Circumcision also pointed toward a greater spiritual reality in that while physical circumcision could not achieve any real constraint of sin and caused God to have no obligation to save anyone, circumcision of the heart was only for the sons of God. But as is often the case with the earthly types that God institutes, because of sin, physical circumcision is often taught to have direct spiritual significance. In the New Testament, there were Jews who tried to tie circumcision directly to salvation to the point where Peter was caught up in their lies and had to be publicly rebuked by Paul. This is also a distinct disagreement between Presbyterians and Reformed Baptists where Presbyterians associate circumcision with baptism and by implication apply the promises of the baptism of Jesus Christ to unbelieving children and from it a form of belonging or covenant membership within the church. We believe that this Presbyterian view of the relationship between circumcision and baptism is contrary to scripture. (We are even more opposed to the views of circumcision and baptism that lead to paedocommunion and to the teachings called Federal Vision)Please join us as we discuss the nature of circumcision and the purposes to which God appointed it.
