  • Is God Ever Angry With Christians?
    Is God ever angry with Christians when they continue to struggle with sin? In this episode, Pastor Richard Caldwell addresses the heavy weight of a guilty conscience by examining the vital difference between God's judicial wrath and His fatherly discipline. While the wrath our sins deserve was fully poured out on Jesus Christ, securing our justification by faith alone, God still administers discipline to His adopted children. This fatherly displeasure is never destructive but is rooted in perfect love to produce holiness, reminding believers that true repentance restores our daily fellowship with our Heavenly Father.

  • Counterfeit Experiences and the True Gospel
    Doreen Virtue explains how Satan uses counterfeit spiritual experiences and false teaching to draw people away from the true gospel. She addresses the New Age emphasis on feelings, distortions of God's love, and deception concerning sin, judgment, and salvation. Pointing to Christ's sinless life, substitutionary death, and bodily resurrection, she urges listeners to repent, trust in Christ, and test spiritual claims by Scripture. • A Handful of Corn
    The sermon explores the theological significance of Psalm 72:16, interpreting the image of a handful of corn on the mountaintops as a metaphor for the advancement of God's kingdom through the simple sowing of the gospel. It argues that the church's growth is not achieved through military power or human effort, but through the divine power inherent in the preached Word, which transforms even the most unlikely places and people. Illustrations from Scottish history, including the Reformation and the ministry of Donald Munro, demonstrate how a single seed of truth can yield a flourishing harvest. The message emphasizes that the gospel reaches the Gentiles and the 'mountains' of the world, bringing salvation to sinners who might otherwise be overlooked. The tone is pastoral and encouraging, urging listeners to trust in the efficacy of the gospel and to pray for its continued spread in their own nations.

  • “The Marriage of the Lamb” (sermon 2096)
    During this period, Spurgeon is locked in combat, contending for the honour and glory of Christ. This sermon is situated both in the overall battle he is fighting, but also in the context of a pastoral ministry in which he is conscious of the need to feed and encourage the flock of Christ. So, having previously preached on the Lamb in glory (the previous sermon in this volume, number 2095, if you want to read it for yourself) he now wants to emphasise that this Lamb is the Bridegroom of the church, and that all our hope and happiness centres in him not only in this life but also in the life which is to come. He therefore steps through the prospect that lies before us, noting from Revelation 19 some of the events which precede the moment of marriage. He turns our attention to the marriage itself, asking how it has been brought about and what it involves. He fixes our eye upon the Bridegroom of our hearts, Jesus Christ, in his character as the Lamb of God, pushing us to recognise that this is essential to the union. Finally, he allows us to see the wife of the Lamb as she approaches her Beloved, prepared by him, for him, clothed in the white linen of her righteousnesses. It is a beautiful picture, and one which the preacher would have us ponder, not only to stir up love and faith and hope, but also to ensure that we will, through trust in the Lamb, participate in that glorious consummation.

  • Why the Early Creeds Matter

In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins explains how these statements connect believers to the historic Christian faith while remaining subject to Scripture. Drawing on Jude 3 and 2 Timothy 1:13–14, this episode encourages Christians to guard sound doctrine and use faithful summaries of the faith to deepen their understanding of God's Word. • Be not discouraged by scoffers
    ~~~~~ No 32 in the series - The Epistles of Peter. ~~~~~ **Considering 2 Peter 3:1-7** This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: ....Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts.....But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. *1/ The certainty of scoffers in the last days. 2/ How we are not to be discouraged by them.* **Sermon summary:** This sermon addresses the challenge of maintaining faith in the face of scepticism and ridicule, drawing from 2 Peter 3 to encourage believers not to be discouraged by scoffers. The central message emphasizes that the last days are characterized by those who mock the promise of Christ's return, yet God's people are called to remain steadfast through the power of remembrance. The exposition highlights how believers should stir up their pure minds by recalling biblical truths, such as the flood and the Passover, which serve as historical proofs of God's judgment and salvation. Furthermore, the sermon instructs the audience to rely on the authority of both the Old and New Testaments, rejecting the scoffers' claim that all things continue as they were. Ultimately, the tone is pastoral and fortifying, urging the church to find assurance in the certainty of God's promises and the coming new heavens and earth, rather than yielding to the world's contempt.
  • Stockton Open Air 01/10/2026
    Please pray for the Stockton Open Air, Thursdays at 11:30 am. This sermon centres on the birth of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 1, emphasising that His incarnation as Emmanuel, or God with us, was specifically to save His people from their sins. The message presents a stark choice between acknowledging Jesus as Lord or rejecting Him, arguing that human works are insufficient for salvation and that only grace through faith in Christ's atoning death can remove the penalty and power of sin. It highlights the infinite worth of Jesus, who bore the wrath of God on behalf of sinners, contrasting the hope of eternal life with the certainty of judgment for those who reject Him. The tone is urgent and pastoral, calling listeners to examine their spiritual state and trust in the finished work of Christ to be adopted into God's royal family.
