Tudoriferous

Unbelievably today is our fifth anniversary.

Five years, two hundred and six episodes on the main feed, seventy four on Patreon.

Thank you all so much for listening to us drone on about these people for all this time.

The second in a two-part series on Maximilian's wives.

This is the unloved one.  Mind you, very big dowry!

(Apologies for the noises off.  While we were recording there was a drive past of about fifty vintage tractors!)

Here is a man who thinks that when it comes to marriage you should keep it in the family.  More exploration, more upsetting the good folk of Calicut and an elephant.

Listener discretion is advised.  Da Gama was a terrible individual who did terrible things.  That said, he's also fascinating.

The first of three trips to Portugal.

Exploration, murder, incest, Communism and my appalling Portuguese pronunciation.

For the 200th episode of Tudoriferous, we present a full performance of "Fulgens and Lucrece" the masterpiece of the first known English playwright, Henry Medwall!

Who will Lucrece, the wise and beautiful daughter of Roman Senator Fulgens, marry? Will she choose the noble but morally dubious Cornelius, or the common but upstanding Gaius? And will their servants, the oddly-named A and B, stop making metatheatrical jokes and chasing her maid Joan for long enough to help? Be warned, we've put the explicit tag on this episode for a reason, the humour of the 1490s was sometimes rather direct...

Thank you so much to the History Podcast Players!

As well as David and Lucy from Tudoriferous, playing A and Joan respectively, this performance features the voices of:

B - Michael from Quest for Power

Fulgens - Quinn from Nobelesse Oblige

Cornelius - Simon from The History of Venice

Lucrece - Meredith from The Alexander Standard

Gaius - Roberto from Tsar Power, and The History of Saqartvelo Georgia... and Quest for Power too!

Almost a prince, almost a duke, almost a kingmaker, almost a rebel - this man teeters on the edge of history, but will Elizabeth Woodville's son, stepson to Edward IV and brother-in-law to Henry VII, be able to escape from the shadow of his incredibly dramatic family? Maybe if we can just work out what a Marquis actually is...
