This is it! As listeners to the our show well know by now, I recently challenged the Arnold Radio News podcast to a round of their own trivia creation “The Quotation Confrontation Situation” and the ballsy battle recently took place. Grown men wept, blood was spilled… ok ok pints of beer were spilled but you get the point. Here’s the video evidence below that proves (A) we did not cheat and (B) you actually can see smoke pour out of my ears when I think too hard. Season 2 of the podcast continues to barrel forward at an unbelievably fast pace! We are firing on all cylinders these days, really finding our rhythm, and I think each episode so far has been a winner. For the second time in the last four episodes the TNCC finds itself paying tribute to a celebrity (in this case a cultural ICON) who has left the world of the living far too early. And as I’m typing up this episode page I’ve just been notified that Master of Horror Wes Craven has passed away. I do not like this trend – at all. It means, without debate, that we are getting older and with age comes a sharp increase in the opportunities for grief and pain to suddenly and abrasively enter our lives. It’s an unusual sadness that one feels when a celebrity, someone you’ve most likely never met in person but have only known through their public performances, dies. You feel silly getting too worked up over it but there’s no mistaking that feeling of loss you feel in your heart knowing that you’ll never see them grace the big screen, your television, or the big stage again. Hmmm… I honestly don’t know if we’ll do another show like this. For the first time in the TNCC podcast’s brief history the entire gang went to the local cineplex, watched a film together (literally, we don’t do the every-other-seat-thing because we’re comfortable with each other like that), and then raced to our secret submarine (not a euphemism) and turned the microphones on. It’s a far different approach than we usually take obviously. Our typical format, as far as the film portion of our show is concerned, is to walk the listener through the film and dissect/analyze/discuss it thoroughly at every step along the way. That’s right folks, we are officially getting settled into our new top secret location. Where is it? I can’t tell you, that’s what “top secret” means. Is it really located 30 nautical miles out in international waters? I can’t tell you that either.
