Another week, another big crossover game on the weekend slate. This time, Toledo will play host to Buffalo, which has a fairly different look now than it did eight weeks ago. Toledo's not playing up to its potential and Buffalo's exceeding everybody's expectations. 

What was once a harmless-looking Ohio vs. BGSU game seemed cute on the schedule, but now it sort of looks like a trap game. Maybe we're just lying to ourselves here. Any potential for chaos in the Battle Cannon and Wagon Wheel rivalries?

Big news of the weekend: Mike Jinks has been fired from Bowling Green. No surprise there, that's a move seemed inevitable, but that wasn't until after Keishawn Watson picked up his own fumble inside the red zone and ran in for a touchdown.

Buffalo's in the driver seat, but the Bulls are human. And Miami's got a good defense. Maybe it's time to re-think the optics of the MAC East? Ohio's loss at NIU certainly puts some things into perspective. 

Over in the West, NIU's the unsexiest undefeated team in MAC play, but that's where we're at. Also, Toledo slipped on a banana peel and lost to EMU for the first time since 2006.

This week's big game of the week is Ohio-NIU, which is what a lot of people thought would end up being the two teams for the MAC title game. That's still a likely scenario, but they certainly aren't having very promising performances. We preview all the Week 7 games, but Ohio-NIU is the biggest one in terms of MAC standings implecations. After that, the big MAC East game is Miami-Buffalo, then there's EMU-Toledo in the West.

Both divisions in the MAC are definitely something but we have no idea what any of this is supposed to mean. WMU's apparently a contender, EMU's apparently not, Miami is, Akron isn't? 

Shouts out to Brad Koenig who caused an interception, received a different interception* and had a fumble recovery between four plays in the fourth quarter at Akron. Then, to wipe it right on Akron's face, Jordan Rigg scores a tuddy. Again. 

*- lol sports officiating sometimes, i tell ya.

And because of that, the MAC East is... funky. Sure, the West is having a unique race of its own, but it's just a blander version of the teams we were already talking about. But the East is just a mixed bag. Last year, Akron lost to a pretty bad Miami team, then beat the obvious division favorites the following week. This week, Akron plays Buffalo. Have fun with that.

Since everybody in the MAC West decided to have a 'down' year, the MAC East is going to have a humongous and entertaining football game featuring the Akron Zips and the Miami RedHawks. October couldn't have come fast enough.

But really — everybody in the MAC West is kinda bad, right?

And they said Akron didn't play this week. Let's save this rebuttal for the end, though.

 

Teams that we feel better about on Sunday than we did on Friday include Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Miami, Ball State and Ohio. But every nail-biting loss by Eastern Michigan is just more depressing than the last, and that's just what happened on Saturday, as one would expect. Buffalo losing to Army (a really good team) by 29 points doesn't really move the confidence needle in a positive direction, I suppose. Could be something.

 

Could be nothing. Could be something, though.

 

Maybe.

The game of the week is easily Kent State vs. Ball State this weekend. Okay, not really, but it's one that we've kinda-sorta had our eye on since about six weeks ago. Little did we know, these two offenses would both have the quickest offenses in the MAC, in terms of shortest time spent between snaps (on average). Little did we also know that NIU's offense would still be dead last in the nation in terms of yards per play. 

And, you know. Some other stuff. Wu-Tang forever.

You could be wondering why this podcast's title is titled the way it is. Instead of giving you reasons to not worry about any sort of potential subliminal messaging going on, I should tell you that we invented a new game. It's called "find the Akron" or something like that. I'm not sure if we gave this thing a name (you'll have to listen to find out; truly sorry for the inconvenience) but this week's Akron is Stanford-Oregon. Congrats to Stanford for being this week's Akron.

Akron just beat its first Big Ten team since 1894, which is probably before your grandparents were born. Buffalo's 3-0 since probably after your grandparents' births. We'll jump around and talk about all the nonsensical football things that happened in Week 3 and will sort of preview Week 4. NIU vs. FSU is going to be the burniest of barn burners!!!!!
