The Gutrin Family who own & operate Domaine La Choupette age this selection in oak to produce a beautiful expression of Chardonnay “Sous Le Puits” indicating a prized wine growing parcel at the top of the hill of Puligny Montrachet. #pulignymontrachet #chardonnay #whiteburgundy #winevideo #1ercru
David Kohl is “In a NY State of Mind” , as he recalls his experiences with Dr. Dan Damianos, the pioneering founder of Pindar Vineyards on Long Island’s North Fork. Pindar Vineyards was established in 1980 just as Long Island was launching its status as a wine region. At that time, Long Island marketed itself as a region reflective of Bordeaux’s unique growing conditions with proximity to the Atlantic’s maritime climate. Almost 45 years later, Pindar Vineyards’ Cabernet Franc selection is a worthy testament to Dr. Dan’s legacy. #longislandwines #pindarvineyard #northforkwines #winepioneers #cabernetfranc
David Kohl explains the nuances of examining + enjoying Old & Rare wines, highlighting an impeccable bottle of 1969 Remoissenet Premier Cru from Burgundy’s Volnay region. Old & Rare wines are perfectly preserved, having been temperature controlled during the aging process. Most likely these wines are located in private collector cellars, rather than retail stores. When the cork removes smoothly and completely intact, this is an excellent sign. As to the instance of low shoulder fill, this is not necessarily an indication of fault. This 1969 Remoissenet has a low shoulder but a tasting reflects that the 55 year old vintage is still in fine form for a classic experience. Don’t be surprised if the wine continues to evolve and develop in your glass after it’s poured. #oldandrare #remoissenet #winevideo #oldburgundy #volnay
David Kohl demonstrates how to navigate the intricacies of a German wine label, noting that bottle color is the first key :clue : brown bottles signify grapes from The Rhine Region, green bottles signify grapes from The Mosel Region, blue bottles signify grapes from multi regions. Along with producer and vintage, German wine labels also indicate the level of “pradikat “ to identify dry wines such as Kabinett through 5 further degrees of sweetness. Of course Reisling is the most familiar of German grapes, known to pair well with foods, especially those of a spicy nature. #germanwinelabels #reisling #kabinett #winetasting #winevideo
Foppiano Vineyard in Sonoma California’s Russian River Valley is a historic wine growing estate founded in 1896. Today it produces a top quality Petite Sirah varietal that retails in the absolutely incredible value range of $15. Petite Sirah is a truly American grape varietal, not to be confused with Syrah which is native to The Rhone Valley of France. and there is certainly nothing tiny about Petite Sirah, it is indeed a "big wine" reflective of California style. David Kohl recalls the “Petite Sirah Breakfast” he attended in Sonoma where the vintners paired bacon with Petite Sirah, which proved to be an amazing combo. #foppiano #sonomavalley #petitesirah #russianrivervalley #winevideo
David Kohl recalls that during his earlier days as an importer, he traveled to South America and discovered that the wines of Perez Cruz vineyard in Chile were outstanding and deserved attention from The USA market. Located at the foot of The Andes Mountains, the wines are rich in minerality and retail in the unbelievable price range of $15. Once steadily trending upward in favor, Chilean wines do seem to have lost a bit of their market momentum. But the quality and value offered remain strong. #chileanwine #winetasting #andesmountains #winevalues #winevideo
David Kohl discovered the wines of Chateau Jean Faux during a visit to Bordeaux Superieur and was so impressed that he added them to his import portfolio. The wines are certified organic and retail at the value centric level $30 range. Chateau Jean Faux was owned since 2002 by Pascale Collette who restored the vineyard and its limestone soils to an impressive growing condition and today is operated by his family. Pascale Collette was by trade a wine barrell maker, specializing in French oak. This expertise served him well in crafting a quality product for Chateau Jean Faux. #bordeauxwine #organicwine #redwine #winevideo #winemaker
The St. Veran wine growing region of Burgundy is not necessarily on everyone's awareness map, but because it is located on parcels that surround the prized vineyards of Pouilly Fuisse, St. Veran ‘s Chardonnay varietals deserve attention…. and note they are priced at approximately half the cost of Pouilly Fuisse. The famed Rock of Solutre is situated nearby, and its prehistoric character adds a distinctive flair to the mineral soils. #chardonnay #stveran #burgundywine #winevideo #pouillyfuisse
David Kohl presents a unique wine produced from the grape known as “Kerner” that thrives in the harsh climate of Italy’s IGT Alto Adige region located within The Dolomite Mountain Range, nearby to the borders pf Austria & Switzerland. You can see the Tyrol influences reflected in the bottle design which resembles that of a classic German Riesling. Adventurous consumers may wish to seek out a Kerner varietal in their local Italian Wine retail section, with its mountain minerality, in place of a simple Pinot Grigio. While Kerner is not widely carried in The USA today, note that the Kerner grape is starting to be planted in California. #kernergrape #italianwine #whitewine #dolomites #winevideo
Long known as the founding father of Upstate NY’s wine trade, Dr. Konstantin Frank came to The USA from Odessa, Ukraine in 1951. He settled in The Finger Lakes Region of NY, finding it reminiscent of the growing conditions in Northern Europe. Today The Frank Family celebrates the 60th Anniversary of its acclaimed vineyard. David Kohl recalls a visit to Dr. Frank’s winery during a tour of The Finger Lakes and shares a tasting of 2019 Pinot Gris, a grape quite prevalent in The Alsace region of Europe. Pinot Gris is an excellent food wine and pairs well with spicy foods. #winevideo #fingerlakesny #konstantinfrank #pinotgris #nystatewines
