The largest protests in decades erupted across Turkiye following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor and Opposition Leader Ekrem İmamoğlu on corruption charges and allegations of ties with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Now there are fears the Turkish president will use the protests to extend his political reign – and take a further step towards dictatorship.
