In this episode, I discuss market factors that influence different genres. Is dystopia dead? Why is science fiction one of the hardest markest to tackle and what is the best market for your story?
I created the Turn Write Podcast for beginning writers, for indie authors, for people who are looking for their voice and who want to know how to use it. The idea for this bite-sized podcast came to me as I sat in endless traffic commuting an hour each way to and from my 9-5 job, wondering why do I write? Why do I rush home every day with the agonizing hope of trying to string together meaningless words to create a feeling deeper than I could dare hope to describe? Well, day after day I kept thinking and there was only one answer: I loved to write. I am on a journey to becoming a published author, and I want to help you get there too.

In this episode, I discuss 4 ways to write a strong character motivation.
1) Complex Plot - a complex plot will force your character to be motivated to achieve the plot goal
2) Inherently interesting characteristics - to set your character apart, he must have interesting and unique qualities
3) Juxtapose your character with other characters - the best way to reveal character is to contrast your protagonist with those around him
4) Dynamic character and/or world - your character should change his attitude to test his motivation and the world around him should change accordingly

Why do we need to write fast paced fiction? It keeps our readers interested. No one likes a book that drags, no matter how artful the prose is. But fast paced fiction isn’t limited to plot. In today’s episode, I will discuss techniques that are applicable to both the plot and the character development.
1. Scene and Sequel
2. Unveil a secret slowly
3. Utilize subplots
4. Ensure pinch and plot points are appropriately placed
5. Character arc for all major characters and some minor characters
6. The element of surprise

In this episode, I discuss two main reasons why you get stuck writing your novel.
You are either in your head too much i.e., being a perfectionist (move forward) or you do not know the plot (work backward).
I discuss ways to overcome those issues and how to move through your novel so that you can reach your writing goals.
