I am joined by my friend Paul Fuzinski from the Aptitude Outdoors Podcast. Paul is a backpacker, kayaker, new hunter, and a big advocate of exploring your home landscape and enjoying the opportunities available in your backyard. As a native to Northwest Ohio, Paul is exploring the not so densely populated turkey woods of his part of Ohio on a mission to kill his first turkey in his neck of the woods.

           Paul is also a dedicated backpacker. From a long list of trials, his most notable accomplishment is through hiking the Appalachian Trial as a young man, which is over 2,000 miles long. One interesting fact about Paul is that he is a self proclaimed metal head and the lead guitarist of his Midwest metallic death band Astralborne. He met his hero, Lou Morillo the lead singer for the world famous metal band ManOWar that you heard on a previous episode, at the Fish/Hunt Podcast Summit and I’ve never seen anyone so flustered and star struck. Fred Fanizzi is a man who has had experiences with nature that normal folk can only dream of. He has harvested 23 of the 29 big game animals in the North American Super Slam, which only 173 hunters dared to take on and actually completed. Although a lover of all things hunting, Fred takes a holistic and more spiritual approach to what hunting means to him. Besides his travels, Fred is also the General Manager at the Orvis endorsed wing shooting lodge, Quail Creek Plantation. His work at Quail Creek includes clay target tournaments, Quail and Pheasant hunting, Turkey hunting, and big game/exotic hunting.

Fred also has a love for aviation and flying in the high country of Montana. Fred has a wife, Maria, of 24 years and a son, Joe, who will be heading to college in Texas this year. He is extremely proud of them both.

Tim is a professional climber who has recently completed a first ascent of the Mission to Mars ice climbing route at Helmcken Falls, Canada. Tim’s accomplishments are far from limited to this first ascent. He has also free climbed a new route on the East Face of the Kendar Dome in the Himalayas, made a first ascent of Muy Caliente in Whales, climbed extremely difficult routes in Cuba and Mongolia, and has been a podium placer a the World Ice Climbing Championships 4 times.

Tim is also a former wing-suit pilot and B.A.S.E jumper. His hobbies include anything he deems radical, including skydiving, snowboarding, diving, climbing, helicopter snowboarding, and mountain biking. He was a pleasure to talk to and a wonderful storyteller.

Dom has worked with UFC Middleweight Julian Marquez, UFC Middleweight Eryk Anders, NFL players, MLB players, business professions, and high level leaders. He is certified in Hypnotherapy, Timeline Therapy, and Neuro Linguistic Programming. Basically, he helps people get rid of anxiety, depression and limiting beliefs.

 

This was an interesting conversation because I believe wholeheartedly in things like visualization, limiting beliefs, and timeline therapy, but I’m pretty darn skeptical about hypnosis. Dom simplified the process, and walked me through some things relating to target panic. For those that don’t know, target panic is a very common problem in archery where you are actually afraid to hit the target. This most commonly results in me missing the target low, and then wallowing in frustration as to why I missed. Dom and I talked through this, along with some other cool topics.
