A few years ago data breaches that affected millions of users would have been all over the news. But nowadays they have become so common that often they go under-reported. In this episode, we will explore one of the most significant data breaches from the last decade ending 2019 - the cyber attack on popular graphic design company, Canva.
💡On the 24th of May 2019, Canva had fallen victim to a cyber attack that affected as many as as 139 million users.
💡But at that time, it wasn't thought to have much impact because the passwords that the hacker had obtained were in encrypted form.
💡It was only 7 months later in January 2020 that it was found that the hacker had successfully decrypted the passwords of 4 million users.
💡But what makes this attack even more unique is that it was
carried out by a hacker who has been responsible for data breaches at over 44 companies worldwide and still remains unidentifiable.
To know more about how it unfolded, who was responsible and how it was dealt with listen to the episode.
