Two And A Half Marks

MARK. IT. DOWN. Nothing like a viral gif to get us to buy into a match. ROH and NJPW did a lot of Forbidden Door-ing before the official Forbidden Door, and this was a top-tier cross-over. NJPW main eventers Okada and Shinsuke, oozing all the charisma, square off with the quintessential ROH tag team of the Briscoes While not a 5-star classic, this match flies on by with all the action and lives up to the dream match hype. Very fitting that for 97, we go to '97. This edition was about as up and down as a PPV you could have. We have some absolute dream matches, but then you get Crush and Jerry Lawler taking up 20 minutes of match time. We also get Shawn Michaels showing his ass, ref shenanigans, the Nation at it's most powerful, and the crowning of Triple H. Folks, we are in the Fastlane towards Wrestlemania 34! Nope, still awful branding. Anyway, the 2018 vintage is a very chill 3 hours full of solid matches. Superstar Shinsuke, a high power level women's tag match, the Usos and New Day cosplaying as each other, and a heck of a 6-Pack Challenge Match for the WWE Title. We also had some weird Shane McMahon shenanigans, but we don't have to talk about that. Well, had to blow a lot of dust off this one, as we are going back to Jim Crockett Productions for the 1988 Bunkhouse Stampede. The good news? We have Dusty Rhodes in all his glory prominently featured. The bad? Well, despite being only two hours, there was not much wrestling on the show, especially in the Nikita Koloff-Bobby Eaton match. BUT LARRY ZBYSZKO, THIS IS ANGELO INGLISA CALLING YOU OUT FOR THE WESTERN STATES HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP. We're workin' here!

'Ello, Govna, we're off to Jolly Ole England for WWF One Night Only (As an American I am legally required to make that the first sentence). Despite only being available in the UK and Canada, WWF put on a show, with The Hart Foundation carrying the last half of the PPV. Owen stares down Vader, Bret conquers the Deadman (kinda), and the British Bulldog squared off with HBK for the European Title, with an ending that created nuclear heat. We have been collecting Uncensoreds like Infinity Stones, with only two left after this 96 edition. The good news? The first 40 minutes feature fantastic singles matches featuring Eddie Guerrero, Konnan, William Regal, and Finlay. The bad? The rest of this card, features a manager wrestling, a convoluted match type, and way too much Booty Man. It's booty, man. MARK. IT. DOWN. We just did a simple classic, so let's head to the exact opposite side of the spectrum. You can't say TNA wasn't inventive, but this might go a little too far. The Reverse Battle Royal for their Fight for the Right Tournament, featured 16 wrestlers starting on the outside of the ring and fighting their way in, and only gets more convoluted from there. Some future WWE guys, some former WWE guys, some indie darlings, and SHARK BOY made sure that this was a match to remember, even if the rules were ridiculous. GET A NEW GIMMICK! Due to scheduling, David and Angelo are breaking the mold. With Mark it Down, we take a look at one random match that we can get our hands on. David had this one queued up right away, his best match ever, Kenta Kobashi v Kensuke Sasaki from NOAH 2005. An absolute work of art, an absolute must-watch. Ahh, the mid-2010s. An era that caused the Authority to break the 4th wall, apologize to fans, and change almost nothing. Highlights of the era are shown, with the John Cena Open Challenge kicking HIAC 2015 off and Lesnar-Undertaker closing the show in a kaiju fight. Everything else, though, is kinda soulless. No one cares about your org chart, WWE. Two And A Half Marks is not affiliated with the WWE/WWF/WCW/TNA/AEW/any promotion or any of the professional wrestlers named in this podcast.
