In some of my podcasts I have been able to introduce other elements hitherto unused or beyond my abilities to present. One such element is music.

Music is an art I have always appreciated from a distance, well, more or less. The production of music has never been me, so when I am introduced to people who can do things I cannot, I am immediately impressed. When I received these music files from Alexander, I wish amazed. I knew I was going to be speaking with a talented artist because I had read some of his short stories and articles and blogs. I had no idea his talents extended to singing and songwriting.

Having recently seen Hamlet at the Schaubuehne in Berlin I am minded of the great work by Shakespeare. It is a world away perhaps for some, as it was for me, but to know too that Shakespeare’s work holds within it such deep spiritual teachings that it can be appropriately used to explain Yogic principles as well is astounding.

One such principle is reflected in this sonnet, that of the true inner self, the unalterable self, that we may hide away, bury, cover or ignore, but remains all the same, waiting to be identified, valued, embraced and loved.

Tai is a poet and a basketball player. It is as a basketball player that I came to know him, but as a poet that I regard him.

In this first opportunity to speak with him we talk more specifically about poetry and his work and of course the background to who Tai is and some familiarising with his Japanese cultural roots,

Tai reads for us some of his work and there is great depth to be found in the arrangement of his words. Speed and rhythm can further accentuate the process of emotional empathising and I find that greatly exhibited here.

In part 4 of the continuing talks with Lilek from Extinction Rebellion, we look at some of the specific practices that the Earth Holders Berlin engage in.

Who are the Earth Holder community and what are some of the activities they lead? How do they combine spiritual and practical approaches?

In this episode Lilek and I talk about some psychological states which affect how people come together or decide not to. We talk about the motivations behind deciding to bring about change and also the lack of it. How as Lilek points out, it is difficult for some people to do that.

We look at group dynamics and the space an individual may take up within that space. How do we open up to the room and to others within that room.

Edgar Allan Poe is well known to many and I have introduced him before on this channel in reading some of his work.

Instead, I will simply say by way of introduction, this short story from the author puts a fascinating little twist to the 1001 Arabian Nights by adding a 1002nd. There has been lengthy study and research as to the origins of the 1001 nights and most scholars are fairly certain that the tales originated in India and Persia in the early 8th century before spreading through the Middle East and having numerous stories adding to the original amount.

The mystery, history and journey of these tales remain fascinating whichever way you view them and Poe’s addition is wonderful in its own way.
