Tai is a poet and a basketball player. It is as a basketball player that I came to know him, but as a poet that I regard him.
In this first opportunity to speak with him we talk more specifically about poetry and his work and of course the background to who Tai is and some familiarising with his Japanese cultural roots,
Tai reads for us some of his work and there is great depth to be found in the arrangement of his words. Speed and rhythm can further accentuate the process of emotional empathising and I find that greatly exhibited here.
Thank you Tai for coming to speak with me and also for permitting me to exhibit some of your work in the podcast notes.
Here is an excerpt from june 16th, friday
the poem never ends because
the darkness comes slow
comes slow comes slow comes slow
i find inflections and downfalls to be aesthetically
pleasing i think
my parents would find it
disturbing
they find me
confusing
and when they find me disturbing
is when they shut me
down
i have felt
the wall within the house
and the rapture
nowhere
or where i had left
them, it
falling down the stanzas
since sentences feel too finite and decisive
in art the gray
in real world the black
the black outside is rough
i find
darkness reveals
the width
of a person
