  • Ep 58 RAMBLE Who’s your favourite narrator?
Let’s talk narrators! Who’s your favourite narrator and why?
As usual this goes off topic but, one thing you have to check out is the reading of Poe’s The Raven by the fabulous Christopher Walken, that we found on YouTube (we are not linked or affiliated with the channel in any way). To listen to the version, we sampled in the episode go to: https://youtu.be/R7G_fZYv8Mg?si=6B7qhIQtBgWvWD03

  • EP 56 REVIEW The Return by Rachel Harrison
It’s a book review this episode. Annette and Chell review The Return by Rachel Harrison. Is this a debut novel with a kick or a meek flick? Listen as The Crones decide if this is a sinner or winner…….
    Synopsis:
Julie is missing, and no one believes she will ever return-except Elise. Elise knows Julie better than anyone. She feels it in her bones that her best friend is out there and that one-day Julie will come back.
She’s right. Two years to the day that Julie went missing, she reappears with no memory of where she’s been or what happened to her.
Along with Molly and Mae, their two close friends from college, the women decide to reunite at a remote inn. But the second Elise sees Julie, she knows something is wrong-she’s emaciated, with sallow skin and odd appetites. And as the weekend unfurls, it becomes impossible to deny that the Julie who vanished two years ago is not the same Julie who came back. But then who-or what-is she?
An eerie storm of a debut that fuses thriller and horror into a brilliant depiction of women’s friendships - the rivalries, jealousies, anxieties and love.

  • Ep 55 RAMBLE Halloween Reads
The spooky season is upon us, Annette and Chell talk about what they like to read and listen to this time of year and what they would like to read over the coming weeks.
Some of Annettes favourites are old school 90s classics 13 Tales of Horror a point horror anthology, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz and a super hard recommendation for The September House by Carissa Orlando which sounds spooky as F@~k. In her to be read pile is Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror curated by Jordan Peele (director of Get Out) and All Hallows by Christopher Golden full of 1980s nostalgia Stranger Thing’s vibes.
Chell is totally unprepared but inspired by Annettes lists recommends a NIGHTLIGHT an ‘award winning horror fiction podcast featuring creepy tales written by Black authors from all over the world’ (https://nightlightpod.com/), her to be read pile includes The Case Against Saten by Ray Russell, written 10 years before the exorcist and rumoured to have inspired it. Currently reading Fearsome Fairies: Haunting Tales of the Fae (British Library Hardback Classics) which as a beautiful hard cover and reads a little extract from Bats in the Library by Brian Lies.
