Two Hearts and One Braincell: Cassidy Carson & JT Hume Amateur Hour

Know a writer or someone who wants to be a writer? Then forward this post to them and invite them to listen to our writers podcast. Thank you!

Episode 191 of our writers podcast has us sitting down with hot coffee on a brisk autumn morning and talking about a little escapism. Being writers and small business owners, we find ourselves consumed with everything related to our books and company processes. What do we do to get away from ourselves, and how do they apply to our writing?

(Spoiler: CC does Stardew Valley and I play chess here.)

CC is having a lot fun with reading Edgar Allen Poe, so check out her YouTube Channel.

We reserved the url for our business: Two Moore Books. There’s nothing there, but people love to clicks, so there you go.

We discuss the Barnes and Noble paperback cover project, and you can find my books at the Churchill County (Nevada) Library and soon at the Nevada State Library.

ZOEY will be available for pre-sale on October 31, and Serving Salvation Book One was released this month on the five platforms for your ordering pleasure. https://carsonhume.com/2024/07/23/pre-release/

Episode 190 is a low-powered affair as we emerge from our COVID saga.

September 29 and September 30 are the last days to vote for CC in the Women’s in Podcasting Award, and we ask for your vote. https://womeninpodcasting.net/awards/

We also ask for your vote in picking the cover for “ZOEY,” my next Nevada-centric book. https://carsonhume.com/2024/09/27/pick-my-cover/

If you prefer Barnes & Noble, then the good news is all of our books will soon be available in paperback from B&N in the near future (they’re all there in e-book format).

We’re doing this so we can do a B&N signing. The main topic of this podcast, then, is writers doing public events and signings, and one of us is dragging their feet. Learn the details here.

Episode 189 of our writers podcast for writers is “a book is judged by its cover.” Like it or not, potential readers will pay attention to your book for barely a second unless something from the cover grabs their attention. We talked about those challenges and two book cover contests today: Serving Salvation and Zoey.

We had good news on the writing front: Teri from Fallon asked the Churchill County Library to buy A Sheriff in Nevada, and they did! Go check it out.

And speaking of Zoey, it is my next Nevada-centric book and it’s looking good! It will be on pre-sale October 31.

(By the way, October 31 is the real Nevada Day.)

Also discussed: COVID. We’re feeling better. We know this is a trigger for some people. We spend less than two minutes talking about our experience this week.

CC is still nominated for a Women’s in Podcasting Award, and we ask for your vote. https://womeninpodcasting.net/awards/

Episode 188 of our podcast for writers is a fun one for us and we hope for you.

Like everyone, we’ve lived some interesting times, so we use those days to play “Three Truths and A Lie.” The twist on our game is how the truths helped make us into the writers we are today.

Here’s CC’s list:

She was a mistress in high school.

She fondled another man’s Oscar.

She was in an adult move.

She was a reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper.

My list:

My first published story was about a cat.

I spent years going to prison.

I almost blew up an apartment building.

I sang the National Anthem at a ballgame.

What are the truths and which is the lie?

We also bring you up to speed on The Two Moore Books production schedule, this week’s book release, the NFL season, the KaboomCon, and the Davis Creek Fire.

The third writer in our image is Jacci Turner, an excellent independent writer. Check out her books at https://www.jacciturner.com/

CC and I did our annual “Race to Wrigley” 5K this morning, and we’re happy and proud to support the chosen charity of our Chicago Cubs.

As noted on their website, “Proceeds from the race will benefit Cubs Charities and its mission is to mobilize the power of sport to champion youth, families and communities. Cubs Charities will donate proceeds from personal fundraising to support Advocate Children's Hospital.”

If you would like to contribute, here is our fundraising page:

https://www.race-cubs.com/registrations/fundraising/073c3ce4-fba2-4ff5-a317-fc8deb9db704

We ran the race a week early because of schedules, so we send love and strength to our fellow racers when they head out on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Good luck to all!

Episode 187 of our writers podcast for writers is about small wins.

Independent, self-published writers understand the feeling of being in a dark room and looking for that light switch labeled “success.” We’re right there with you. Today, we’re reminding ourselves that we did have small victories this week.

We talk about the process of getting our books onto local shelves and developing a media kit. One example: https://www.carsonnow.org/reader-content/08/29/2024/carson-city-author-releases-first-book-epic-sci-fi-trilogy

We also had fun talking about the fan fiction we would write if we had the time. Our answers might surprise you.

We bring up using the Atticus application for formatting our paperbacks. We are not paid to advertise for Atticus. If you are interested:

One week from today (September 4), Serving Salvation Book One will be available in e-book on the five platforms. It will also be in paperback on. Amazon.

We’re excited about this big day, so not only did we do a short podcast and YouTube, we experimented with two cameras. That’s a big step for us.

CC interviews me about my inspirations, homages, writing processes (spreadsheets), and how I’d like to see the inevitable movie.

We’re having a great week here at Two Moore Books, and that excitement comes through.

Check it out and TIA LYL!

Episode 186 of our writers podcast for writers is all about CC going back to school, so to speak. She attended two writing summits in August where she learned how to thrive as an author amid distractions, and how to write romances in the Twenty-First Century.

She shares many of the valuable lessons she learned, with the most important of those being that we as independent writers are not alone in our marketing and production challenges, and that we all struggle with imposter syndrome at some time. Some lessons learned may or may not apply to your specific situation, so when you listen, your mileage may vary.

Related to this, CC is nominated for a Women in Podcaster Award, and this episode demonstrates why she should get your vote.

We have updated our About Us and Our Books pages on our website.

We’re still grinding away at real life, but the fun part of the week was we became fan-owners of the Oakland Ballers, fulfilling a lifetime dream of being involved in professional baseball. Go Ballers!

Serving Salvation Book One is still on presale on the five platforms for your ordering pleasure. The e-books and the paperback will go live on Wednesday, September 4.

Episode 185 of our long adventure as writers/podcasters takes us on a journey through books and movies, two of our favorite subjects. This time we talk about the books that we feel translated well to the big screen, as well as some that did not transfer as well.

We discuss why turning books into movies is such an incredibly difficult and expensive lift.

Discussed with minimal spoilers: Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Godfather, The Martian, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, the MCU movies, the Da Vinci Code, Superman the Movie, and Gone with the Wind.

We bring you up to speed on our current projects along with discussing our publication schedule (which may and probably will change).

Related: Beta readers are awesome.

Episode 184 of writers’ podcast for writers is a self-examination of the genres that CC and I won’t write about. From our library and Works in Progress (WIPs), you might assume that we’ll tackle any subject, anytime. You wouldn’t be far wrong, but we each manage to pick a genre that we’re not interested in, plus there's one genre we agree we won’t take on anytime soon.

We bring you up to speed on our current projects, and we hint about road trips that may include yet another Big A** Trip in 2025. (Related: we’re not very bright, are we?)
