The average baseball fan may not know who Tony Clark is, but it's a safe bet that pretty much everybody knows who Billy Bob Thornton is.

One is the former Executive Director of the Major League Baseball Players Association; the other is the star of the hit TV series "Landman."

The Super Bowl - yes, the Patriots had a relatively easy path to their 14-3 record, but their run to Sunday's game required them to beat three of the top five defenses in the league.

As for the Seahawks, the Sam Darnold Redemption Tour continues as the former Jets QB finds himself in a FAR different position than he did while playing for New York.

Jim Monaghan and Chris Swendeman make their picks, and at least one of them may surprise you.

Bill Belichick's Snub - one of the big stories last week centered around the former Patriots head coach, and owner of 8 Super Bowl rings, NOT being elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Retribution for perceived transgressions?  Perhaps, but the backlash coming from all sides has not gone unnoticed in the league offices.

If you're a New York Jets fan, you can plan on punching your ticket straight to heaven because in less than two weeks, you will have spent your time in hell.

With the hated New England Patriots back in the Super Bowl and the Sam Darnold-led Seattle Seahawks on the opposite sideline, what's a Jets fan supposed to do?

As you may recall, Darnold's "signature" Jet Moment came in a particularly horrific game against New England during which the dazed and confused quarterback slumped on the bench and said, "I'm seeing ghosts."

Suffice it to say that Darnold isn't seeing any strange apparitions these days, and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel took a team that finished 4-13 the two previous seasons and brought them back to the Super Bowl.

And the Jets?

They fired their coaches with one MAJOR exception - head coach Aaron Glenn who inexplicably STILL has his job, even as former Bills head coach Sean McDermott is somewhere out there looking for a job.

Last week on the Two-Minute Drill, Jim Monaghan and Chris Swendeman were talking about how the Jets needed to do whatever it takes to get former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin in the building in Florham Park and not let him leave until he came on board as their new head coach.

Now with the firing of Sean McDermott by the Bills, the Jets have another golden opportunity to bring a high-level head coach into the organization.

And if the Jets need any kind of a blueprint into how to get it done, they need only to look at how their MetLife Stadium cohabitants, the Giants, got their deal done with John Harbaugh.

The theme of this NFL season has been head coach openings - there are nine of them right now to be exact.

In all actuality, there should be an even ten with the New York Jets making an immediate move to relieve Aaron Glenn of his head coaching responsibilities and subsequently offering Mike Tomlin (late of the Pittsburgh Steelers) whatever it takes to get him on board.

In his 19 years as the lead voice of the Steelers, the team has NEVER had a losing season.  

Let that sink in for a minute, Jets fans.

NOT A SINGLE LOSING SEASON IN 19 YEARS!

Meanwhile, the latest move the Jets made?  Signing Bailey Zappe to be the backup quarterback.

Following the final weekend of the regular NFL season, a whopping SEVEN teams are looking for a new head coach, and after their final two dismal performances against the playoff-bound Patriots and Bills, don't be surprised if the Jets make it eight.

Out of all the teams with an opening for a new head coach, the Giants might be the most attractive.

Think about it - a young quarterback who appears poised for stardom, a couple of key players coming back from injury next year....  Could the Mara family entice the recently-fired John Harbaugh to come to East Rutherford?

For this final episode of year, Jim Monaghan and Chris Swendeman went on separate road trips to watch their favorite teams play, and the results were WILDLY different.

Chris Swendeman journeyed to Buffalo to watch his recently-appointed favorite team the Bills take on the Eagles.   Through a driving rainstorm, he watched a pretty exciting game, even if the hometown Bills came out on the losing end.

As Chris points out, the Eagles fans in attendance (and there were a lot more than you might expect who made the trip to upstate New York) were remarkably well-behaved.  Although if you listened to Philadelphia sports talk radio after the game you would have thought the Iggles actually lost.

Jim Monaghan didn't have to travel quite as far to see the New England Patriots.  They were at MetLife Stadium taking on the New York Jets in what ultimately was a blowout win for New England.  And judging by the amount of navy blue and red in the stadium, this had all the feels of a home game in Foxborough MA.

We may not know who the head coach of the New York Giants will be in 2026, but we do know this -

It will NOT be Mike Kafka.

That deal was sealed in yet another loss this past Sunday with a play that might be the perfect metaphor for a disastrous season.

Trailing 3-0 to the Vikings early in the game, the Giants were in a 4th and 5 inside the Red Zone.  Rather than go for what would have been a game-tying field goal, the Giants opted to go for a first down.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart was sacked for a five-yard loss, and while the Giants would later tie the game and keep things close, given the circumstances (rookie QB, offensive line injuries, etc), the decision to attempt to secure a first down clearly wasn't the right one.

And turning to baseball, with yet another trade - this one sending Jeff McNeil to the Oakland Athletics - the Mets are telling you that they have identified who they feel the sources of the 2025 Clubhouse Chaos were.

A lot of Mets fans are all up in arms over the team letting slugger Pete Alonso sign as a free agent with the Baltimore Orioles.

And that's after trading Brandon Nimmo and the free-agent departure of Edwin Diaz to the Dodgers.

But here is the reality of the situation - ownership saw that the roster, as constructed for the 2025 season, did not win.  They also didn't like the culture of the clubhouse.  

Having three high-profile players leave is a clear message to everyone that ownership wants to make some serious changes.

Before we get to that, though, Jim Monaghan lets Mr. Bills Mafia Chris Swendeman gloat a little (okay, a lot) following Buffalo's come-from-behind win over the Patriots in Foxborough on Sunday afternoon.

Oh and one more thing - some guy named Springsteen showed up at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on Sunday night.
