Paul continues to explain how Israel has rejected their need for a Messiah to save them from their sins because of their own self-righteousness. In this passage, we see the heart of salvation (what it is and what it isn't) and we see the extent of salvation (who it is for, and what implications it creates).

• The Heart of Salvation (5-10)

  • Jesus gives salvation to all who call upon His name

  • Jesus changes everything

In this passage, we once again see Paul's heart for Israel as he explains that their zeal and righteousness were misdirected. Instead, he points them to where their gaze ought to be, which is the person and work of Jesus Christ.

  • Israel's zeal is misdirected

Paul shows that God has always had a plan for salvation, and that plan has never changed.

• Salvation for the Gentiles (25-26)

  • Israel's rejection of Christ as the Messiah was foreknown

  • Salvation from God extends to the Gentiles

  • A remnant of Israel will be saved

  • God promises to save and to judge

In this passage, we see God's sovereign plan of salvation displayed in His election, His mercy, and His glory.

  • God is a God of mercy

  • God is the giver of salvation

• God's Glory (19-24)

  • God's ways are greater than our ways

  • God's glory will be revealed

In this passage, we see Paul's deep anguish and concern for Israel's rejection of Christ, and we see the advantages that Israel does indeed have by being God's chosen people.

• Anguish for Israel (v1-3)

  • Paul's genuine love for others

  • Paul's sacrificial love for others

• Advantages for Israel (v4-5)

  • These advantages have value

  • These advantages do not save

In this passage, we see that nothing can separate the Christian from the love of God. The Christian's salvation is totally and completely secure in Him.

• God will not separate us (31-32)

  • God has given us His Son

• Our sin will not separate us (33-34)

  • God has cleared us of all charges

  • Jesus is victoriously interceding for us

• Hardships will not separate us (35-37)

  • The love of Jesus is greater than all hardships

  • We are more than conquerors through Christ

  • You can be confident that nothing will separate you from the love of God

This week we look at what is often referred to as the "golden chain of salvation". In this chain, we see five links that show us God's incredible work in salvation and the complete security the Christian has in their salvation.

This week we look at one of the most beloved verses in all of Romans. It is a tremendously comforting verse as we see God's great promise and plan for His people.

• The Content of God's Great Promise and Plan

  • Power: God causes all things to work together for good (28b)

  • Sovereignty: God's designed purpose will be carried out (28d)

• The Extent of God's Great Promise and Plan

  • This promise is for the Christian only (28c)

  • The Christian can confidently trust in the promises of God (28a)

In this passage, we see the groanings of creation, believers, and the Holy Spirit. All of which points us to the hope we have in God.

• Creation Groans (v19-22)

  • Creation waits for the revealing of the sons of God

  • Creation was unwillingly subjected to futility

  • Creation will be set free from this bondage

• Believers Groan (v23-25)

  • Believers eagerly wait for the full redemption of their bodies

  • Believers have an assured hope in the promises of God

• Spirit Groans (v26-27)

  • The Spirit bears our burdens in prayer
