Today we continue drawing out treasure from the book of Jonah. First Jess from Moline shares how her delayed obedience (like Jonah’s) kept her from experiencing the better God had for her. But she finally surrendered. Find out what deleting Facebook has to do with all this.
Then we contrast Jonah with Jesus to show us how much God wants us in his family! Jonah went kicking and screaming against his will to share God’s mercy with a wicked city. But Jesus gave up his throne, his palace, his own life, willingly to save us.
If the wicked people of Nineveh repented at the preaching of one who didn’t care about them, how much more should we repent and give our whole lives over to the one who willingly bled out for us so that we might be saved from eternal banishment. God wants you. Jesus death for you proves it!
And finally we talk about how after Jonah’s disobeyed God, he felt he had lost God’s presence. But actually he left God, God never left him. A thread through the whole book of Jonah is God’s faithfulness to unfaithful Jonah. If God wanted disobedient Jonah, he wants you. Any thought to the contrary is a lie!
