Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to outline his philosophy for the wars of genocide and aggression that the Israeli government has committed in the Middle East, saying, "It's not enough to be moral" or "just." Quoting the American philosopher Will Durant, Netanyahu said: "Jesus Christ has no advantage over Genghis Khan. If you are strong enough, ruthless enough, and powerful enough, evil will overcome good." Genghis Khan was a brutal and barbaric ruler in the 13th Century who founded the Mongol Empire. His conquests wrought death and destruction throughout Eurasia, burning towns, villages and cities to the ground, leaving a trail of death and destruction. Jesus remains a revered figure throughout the world who brought the teachings of peace, love and tolerance through Christianity. His influence has persisted throughout the ages – far more than Khan's. Bethlehem Pastor Munther Isaac said Netanyahu's comments were "making a mockery" of the ethics of Jesus. He posted on X: "This quote by Netanyahu is offensive on multiple levels. It not only compares Jesus to Genghis Khan, but also suggests that the way of Jesus is naive, while a ruthless, “might makes right” approach—marked by relentless aggression—is what ultimately allows good to overcome evil." After a fierce backlash, Netanyahu later posted on social media that no offense was intended.
